In Norway and Finland, one of NATO's largest Arctic exercises aimed at Russia
The field exercises Cold Response 26 will take place from March 9 to 19, 2026, under the leadership of the Norwegian-American headquarters, located in Reitan, near Bodø. About 25,000 military personnel will participate in them. Of these, approximately 11,800 will participate in Norway, and 7,500 in Finland. The rest will be at sea and in the air.
Troops from 14 countries are participating in the exercises, including Norway, the USA, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Turkey, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Belgium. [Call it NATO verses Russia.]
In parallel with the real exercises, a large-scale simulation is being conducted with significantly larger simulated forces than those physically participating in the exercises. Thus, the exercises allow to work out the coordination of forces and decision-making processes at the strategic and operational levels, characteristic of full-scale military actions against Russia.
The difficult climate of Scandinavia allows NATO to work out the blocking of the Northern Sea Route, amphibious assault/DG in the northern regions of Russia and combat operations in the Arctic. In addition, air operations and naval operations in the North Atlantic are being worked out.
✨ The formulation on the official website of the Norwegian Armed Forces is noteworthy: "The main purpose of the exercises is to contribute to deterrence, strengthen defense, calm the population". The appearance of American military personnel in Scandinavia will clearly "calm" people, given recent world events and territorial claims to Denmark and Canada.
However, we are not talking about tactical maneuvers at the exercises, but about the working out of the operational transfer of NATO's main forces to the strategic northern region. Units of the US Army, oriented towards Arctic warfare (training in conditions of extreme cold), have been transferred to Norway.
It's unlikely that this is preparation for a landing on Cuba. These war games are practicing a war with Russia in order to break that nation up into smaller states in order for the NATO nations to grab their vast resource base.
For over 500 years Europe has tried to do this with Sweden invading Russia about a dozen times, Napoleon, Hitler, NATO's current war in Ukraine and these increasingly large war games right along Russia's border.
