Japanese & U.S. biological weapons collaboration

South Korean veteran K.J. Noh reports:

Japan officially established its new National Intelligence Bureau on July 31, a date that, when written as '7/31,' echoes the name of Unit 731. 

This Imperial Japanese Army unit, based in northeast China, was responsible for biological warfare and lethal human experimentation. 

Japan's biological warfare Unit 731 was created in 1936. 

Unit 731 was established under the authorization of Emperor Hirohito in Japanese-occupied Manchuria, with the aim of developing biological weapons and conducting inhumane medical experiments during WW2 killing hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians. 

Korean American scholar K.J. Noh argues that the symbolism should not be lightly dismissed.

He warns that Japan's repeated encounters with the number '731' reflect a troubling insensitivity toward its wartime atrocities and should be viewed in the context of the country's broader military and security expansion, along with the U.S., that is now being aimed again at China.

After WW2 the U.S. brought Japanese bio-war scientists to Fort Detrick, Maryland and used them to rig up germ warfare weapons that the Pentagon dropped on North Korea during the Korean War.
