Film about a Mainers conversion from militarism to Earth-centered life

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

What kind of world are we leaving for the next generation?

In a time of "unhinged" global leadership and mounting climate anxiety, it is easy to feel that the system is failing. But while the headlines focus on extraction and conflict, there is a "Plan B" being engineered by civil society in the places you’d least expect.

We invite you to join us on Saturday, May 23, at 7:00 PM at the First Parish Congregational Church UCC in Saco, Maine for a special screening of Saving Walden’s World.

This film follows Jim Merkel’s personal journey from a former military engineer to a father raising his son on an off-grid Maine homestead. It is a story of "enemy territory" investigating how societies in Kerala, Cuba, and Slovenia have achieved true stability by prioritizing women’s literacy, healthcare, and reproductive freedom.

Why attend? This isn't just a movie; it’s a blueprint for a poetic and sustainable future. Recently accepted for national distribution on PBS, this screening is a chance for our local community to engage with these solutions before they reach a national audience.
