We had 55 folks from all over Maine gather today at the University of Maine-Augusta for our Bring Our War $$ Home 30-day Care-a-Van finale celebration. It was a great event.
People brought food to share and we heard from several leaders across the state talk about the campaign and the growing protests in NYC and Washington. We also listened to two renowned poets read their works as well as two inspiring singers.
The next step for the campaign will be to meet on Saturday, Oct 29 in Augusta (King Street Resource Center) from noon to 3:00 pm to evaluate and discuss ideas for our next phase. People seem to want to keep the Bring Our War $$ Home effort moving. We all take great pride in the fact that this Maine-initiated campaign has now become an integral part of the growing national movement.
It just goes to show what can happen when good spirited people work together toward a common goal across a state. We have focused our energy and public consciousness on the links between war spending and economic crisis.
Build it and they will come.
