Harris & Trump debate 'maintenance of the status quo'

 The debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump featured a rehash of neo-liberal and imperialist talking points. Both are committed to disastrous policies domestically and internationally.

The United States' decline under oligarchic rule is brutally exposed every four years, as the duopoly parties differ on fewer issues and agree that the people’s needs stay far away from the political agenda. The 2024 election is no different, as the quality of candidates continues its downward trajectory with a former president who is hated by half the country but beloved by millions more running against a current vice president that no one voted for as a presidential candidate. Their September 10 debate was highly anticipated but not for very good reasons.

Kamala Harris entered the debate one day after finally putting cursory policy platform information on her website which had nothing but merchandise for sale and donation buttons for fifty days. It is hard to understand why she needed so much time to do what was an obvious copy and paste version of Joe Biden’s campaign website, but the odd decision-making is emblematic of this bizarre campaign season and her own lack of gravitas.

Just four days before the debate former vice president Dick Cheney endorsed Harris. Cheney was once a villain to liberals , the de facto president when he served under George W. Bush and the driving force behind the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Not only did he help to kill 1 million people, but it was a war from which he personally profited due to his connections to the Halliburton corporation, a major military contractor.

Cheney was loathed by liberals until January 6, 2021, when he and his congresswoman daughter Liz Cheney were quite vocal in their condemnations of Trump. True to form, liberals developed collective amnesia about their prior Cheney hatred and they suddenly elevated the right-wing family to revered status. Harris didn’t run from the endorsement, instead, she declared herself, “honored to have their endorsement” and praised the Cheneys for “putting the country before party.” Dick Cheney would not endorse someone who wasn’t pledged to continue the neo-liberal and imperialist project and clearly Harris sees the endorsement as being beneficial. Why shouldn’t she? KHive and Blue MAGA democrats continue being so completely indoctrinated that they don’t want to hear anything negative about her and corporate media are fully on her side.

Donald Trump sometimes rambles incoherently and gives the impression that he is experiencing cognitive decline like Joe Biden. Kamala Harris is younger and healthier, but she has also been promoted beyond her skill set and laughs nervously or has strange outbursts when she is unsure of herself. Trump often goes off script and Harris stumbles when speaking off the cuff. Debate anticipation was less about policy prescriptions than about who would make the better impression.

But ultimately good preparation was enough to win because the so-called moderators from ABC news had their thumbs firmly on the scale of orthodoxy when they posed questions about U.S. policy around the world. There was no effort to actually engage in debate. Instead, there were leading questions that asserted that the U.S. cannot be questioned in its actions. One example is this statement which was a clear expression of support for the idea that the U.S. should be the world's hegemonic and unipolar power. “Mr. President, it has been the position of the Biden administration that we must defend Ukraine from Russia, from Vladimir Putin, to defend their sovereignty, their democracy, that it's in America's best interest to do so, arguing that if Putin wins he may be emboldened to move even further into other countries.” Trump answered correctly when he said the war in Ukraine can and should end with negotiation. Harris of course revived Russiagate allegations by saying Trump would end the proxy war by just “giving up” Ukraine and that if Trump were president, “Putin would be sitting in Kyiv.”

It was Trump who brought up the fact that Biden’s actions regarding Ukraine could lead to World War III. Of course, he incorrectly said that “millions” of people have died in Ukraine but he also mentioned the very real threat of nuclear weapons. However, he did not mention that he, like every president of the last 20 years, unilaterally withdrew the U.S. from long-standing nuclear agreements with Russia and helped to create a very dangerous situation today.

While the moderators engaged in scaremongering about Vladimir Putin, Harris and Trump both went out of their way to express devotion to Israel. Harris claims she is working for a ceasefire in Gaza while simultaneously promising to continue weapons and money for Israel. She repeated calls for a two-state solution which Israel has repeatedly rejected and added threats against Iran for good measure. Trump dispenses with pretense and says he is and will remain Israel’s guy and claims that Harris “hates Israel.” He predicted that if Harris is elected, “...Israel will not exist within two years from now.” 

 

Putin was cast as the all-purpose villain and Chinese president Xi Jinping also came in for criticism. Both Harris and Biden pledged to make the U.S. number one in chip production and Harris even blamed Xi for the spread of covid.

The subterfuge of alleged differences was not confined to Israel, Russia or China. Harris went out of her way to say that she wouldn’t ban fracking. Of course, fracking ought to be banned because it produces fossil fuels, contaminates water supplies, and even produces earthquakes. Harris went on to claim that democrats are concerned about climate change while simultaneously pledging to continue oil production. The moderators did not call out the inconsistency.

Overall the debate was a very sad affair. Trump made immigration the centerpiece of his remarks, claiming that crime is up in the U.S., even though it isn’t, because criminal aliens are amongst us. He repeatedly debunked claims of immigrants eating dogs and cats and being drug dealers and terrorists who will all try to vote. It was vintage Trump, meaning embarrassing, and Harris could only say that she favored a bipartisan immigration bill that featured the worst aspects of Trump policy that has resulted in more deportations under Biden than under Trump.

Supporting Israel will be a high-priority goal of a Harris or Biden administration. Democratic presidents have failed to codify the Roe v. Wade decision when they controlled Congress and could have done so. Harris’s claim of passing federal legislation rings hollow while Trump ranted that democrats were executing babies.

Perhaps the Kamala Harris image makers are right. She need only talk about joy while Trump says that protesters burned down Minneapolis, a city that actually still exists, while mentally ill immigrants run amok. The donors who as Trump says, “Threw Biden out of the campaign like a dog,” may have been right. Enough money and good press might be enough to put Kamala Harris in the white house.

US & British spy chiefs in defense of the Western-dominated world order

Bill Burns, the head of the CIA and Richard Moore, the head of the British intelligence service MI6, appeared together in public on Saturday and voiced their opinion that in order to protect the threatened global order, the West should lift all restrictive measures so that Ukraine can use all its weapons against Russia. The head of the CIA called Putin a bully, and Moore said that the West cannot be intimidated by the words of the Russian president, the correspondent of the Hungarian Community for Peace reported on Sunday.

Burns and Moore answered questions from the newspaper’s correspondent at the Financial Times Weekend Festival at London’s Kenwood House.

“There is no doubt that the international world order, the balanced system that has led to relative peace and stability and ensured rising standards of living, opportunities and prosperity, is in a state of danger that has not been seen since the Cold War,” says their joint statement, published in the columns of the Financial Times.

Neither in their written nor in their oral statements did they consider it important to address the question of why their governments deny Russia’s equal right to security and why the introduction of an order based on equal cooperation instead of the current confrontational world order would endanger Western civilization.

The two spy chiefs believed that in defeating Russia and bringing its allies under control, they could save the uni-polar world order dominated by the West from the threat from the East. “Putin cannot win, staying the course is more important than ever when it comes to supporting Ukraine,” was said.

They have expressed concern that China, Iran and North Korea are cooperating with Russia, with Iran supplying Russia with drones, China with parts for military equipment, and North Korea with artillery ammunition.

China has been described as the main intelligence and geopolitical challenge of the century.

The penetration of the Ukrainian forces into Russia was classified as a significant tactical achievement and a victory. Burns praised Kiev’s act of war because Putin thought it was only a matter of time before they would “grind down the Ukrainians and wear down their supporters” so he could dictate the terms. Moore admitted that it would be difficult to say how long the Ukrainians could stay on Russian territory.

The joint performance of Burns and Moore was also full of propaganda tricks. Among other things, they claimed that Putin is great in one thing: suppressing the Russians. Russian intelligence was also said to be carrying out acts of sabotage against European civilian objects because its desperation. (They did not elaborate on who blew up the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.) With fear-inducing and unsettling statements, they tried to tune public opinion to serve the power goals of the Western elite.

Not a single comment was made about recommending to their governments to seek a compromise with Moscow and Beijing on the basis of equal cooperation and mutual benefits.

The director of the CIA and the head of MI6 made it clear that their only goal is to save the power hegemony of the West in the 21st century, which is why they work closely together.

The Hidden Face of War

The Forward Observations Group, a private military company based in the United States, published a photo of its war professionals in the Russian region of Kursk, a presence confirmed by a video showing the destruction by the Russian armed forces of Forward Observations Group armoured vehicles and commandos in Kursk. This US military company, whose role is described by the authoritative Military Watch magazine as ‘very obscure’ (evidently, it is linked to US intelligence services), has been engaged for more than two years with Ukrainian forces against Russia with the task of carrying out special operations, including preparing attacks with toxic chemicals.

There is documented evidence that Ukraine is involved in the preparation of attacks with chemical and biological weapons. This US military company is not the only one operating covertly in the theatre of war against Russia. Based on precise documentation Military Watch writes: ‘Numerous facts have emerged about the role of military personnel from NATO member states (including Royal Marines and British SAS commandos) in supporting Ukrainian war operations against Russia. Military advisers, both logisticians and combatants, and other personnel have been operating since 2022 in the theatre of war with a range of newly delivered complex weaponry.’ This confirms that the Ukrainian armed forces are not only armed and trained by the US and NATO, but that US-NATO military companies and special forces operate directly in the theatre of war in command and management roles of sophisticated weaponry, such as long-range missiles and drones, for the use of which military satellite networks are needed, which Ukraine does not have.

At the same time, the US is deploying nuclear weapons (bombs and missiles) at intermediate range in Europe, increasingly close to Russia. Even the missile defence systems, which they deploy in Europe on the official grounds of protecting European populations from the ‘Russian nuclear threat’, are in fact prepared for nuclear attack. The two US Aegis Ashore sites in Poland and Romania and the US Navy destroyers operating in the Baltic and Black Sea are equipped with Lockheed Martin's MK-41 vertical launch systems, which, as the manufacturer itself documents, can be used for any warfare mission, including nuclear attack on land targets.

Italy actively contributes to the preparation of nuclear war. Violating the Non-Proliferation Treaty, it hosts US nuclear weapons (the new B61-12 bombs), which the Italian Air Force is trained to use, and through Leonardo it manufactures nuclear weapons. Now Italy has pledged to build - together with France, Germany and Poland - ground-launched cruise missiles with a range of more than 500 km, i.e. a more advanced version of the US intermediate-range nuclear missiles deployed at Comiso in the 1980s, which were eliminated by the 1987 INF Treaty, a treaty that the US tore up in 2019.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is one of the worst warmongers in all of Europe. The woman appears to thrive on war - especially against Russia.

 France: After Two Months Without a Government, an Old Right-Winger is Appointed Prime Minister

In 2017, Macron was marketed by the media as a new product. He was elected without a program, solely on the argument that he represented the “new world,” breaking away from the old political class. Seven years later, Macron is resurrecting the worst aspects of the old world, amidst increasing fascization and overt authoritarianism, having shattered the last illusions of representative democracy.

Michel Barnier: A Political Dinosaur

After a prolonged indecision over several candidates for Prime Minister, Macron ultimately chose Michel Barnier, thereby sidelining Bernard Cazeneuve and Xavier Bertrand, other contenders for the role. Michel Barnier epitomizes the political dinosaur: an old-school figure who has been entrenched in the circles of power for 50 years.

Indeed, Michel Barnier has been in politics since the 1970s. At 73, he has been with the UDR, the RPR, the UMP, and finally Les Républicains. These acronyms might not mean much to you: they represent the names of French right-wing parties that have come and gone throughout the Fifth Republic. He has served as Minister for the Environment, European Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Agriculture and Food, and has twice been a European Commissioner. He has served under Pompidou, Chirac, and Sarkozy — times so distant that most of our readers weren’t even born, with the average age of the French being around 41. Michel Barnier was a professional politician before most of the population was born!

What’s even more amusing is that Barnier is a member of an endangered party, which garnered only 4.8% of the vote in the last presidential elections and came fourth in the legislative elections earlier this summer. His legitimacy is questionable at best.

Clarification

At least things are clear: Macron reiterated that Mélenchon’s Left-Wing Nouveau Front Populaire (NFP), with its 193 MPs, did not have an absolute majority and therefore could not form a government. Ultimately, he appointed the representative of an ultra-minority group with only 55 MPs, with the sole aim of continuing to govern with the right and far right, and pursuing his massively rejected policies. It’s a power grab.

A few days ago, the newspaper L’Opinion revealed that Macron “wants to appoint the ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Armed Forces. But he also intends to choose the occupants of the Interior and Bercy.” On August 30, L’Humanité reported that Macron had said: “If I appoint NFP’s Lucie Castets, she will repeal the pension reform and raise the minimum wage to 1,600 euros…” That’s the crux of the issue: the ruling clan will do anything to prevent even the slightest social advancement.

For its part, Le Parisien explained that Macron had been consulting with Sarkozy, the former right-wing president and convicted criminal, over the summer, seeking his advice on the choice of Prime Minister. On September 2, Le Monde reported that “the Élysée had already found a chief of staff for the next Prime Minister.” This is no longer cohabitation; it’s subletting. The real Prime Minister is Macron. The already tenuous separation of powers is officially abolished.

So Much for That

Recall that the President dissolved the Assembly in an emergency, gave it 15 days to vote, preventing a real campaign, only to wait 50 days and appoint a puppet Prime Minister. For over two months, the press has been complicit in the Macronist coup, never questioning the narrative. In mid-July, they announced: “Prime Minister after the Olympic truce.” On August 27, the headlines still read: “Macron will name a Prime Minister at the end of the week.” Today is September 5.

The Far Right in Power

Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National (RN) has made it clear that it will not censure this Prime Minister. Its spokesperson, Bardella, is even the first politician to respond to the power grab, soberly stating that he “takes note” of the appointment. Bardella announced that he would “judge by evidence,” meaning the far right will not oppose the new government.

In fact, a coalition ranging from the RN to the Macronists is being officially formed before our very eyes. It’s a union of the right and far right against the left, to disregard electoral results, and above all, to continue favoring the rich while wreaking havoc on the lives of the poorest.

In June, the Rassemblement National was the only party to call for dissolution, and Macron granted its wish. For months, Macronists had been holding secret dinners with the Le Pen clan. The current coup is thus a continuation of a process that began long ago.

Now, the last masks have fallen. This pathetic appointment may be the final breath of an old world coming to an end. It is up to the streets to put an end to this dismal spectacle.

International week of events to stop the militarization of space

Each October the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space organizes Keep Space for Peace Week to bring attention to the need to stop the ever advancing militarization and nuclearization of space.
 
In 1989 Apollo astronaut (and moon walker) Edgar Mitchell spoke at one of our protests at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and said, 'One war in space will be the one and only. So much space debris would be created that we would not be able to get a rocket off the planet Earth. We'd be entombed to the planet forever. It would be like a mine field not allowing any rocket to get thru the debris field just over our heads'.
 
Today all war on Earth is directed from orbiting military satellites.
 
For many years China and Russia have gone to the United Nations seeking to create a new treaty to ban all weapons in space. (Close the door to the barn before the horse gets out.)

But the US and Israel have been blocking such treaty negotiations for more than 25 years. The US has long maintained, 'There is no problem, there are no weapons in space.' It was obvious that the US intended to develop 'control and domination' of space and didn't want any treaty limitations.
 
Help us during October 5-12 to illuminate this issue for the public who are now massively paying for the militarization of space - what the aerospace industry brags is the 'largest industrial project in human history'.

The lie that Ukraine is defending democracy or standing up for "western values" has never been weaker. But now we are getting reports that not just journalistic publications critical of the Kiev-Regime are getting purged, ANYONE who dares to utter opinions not in line with the regime is getting persecuted, even for private conversations. Society is under total surveillance.

I’m talking to Vasyl Muravytskyi, a Ukrainian journalist who has been publishing highly critical reports about his government before and after the Euromaidan events back in 2014, for which he got in a lot of trouble. On 1 August 2017, he was arrested by Ukrainian law enforcement charged with high treason and spent 11 months in prison.

Vasyl now lives in Finland from where he is talking to us, assisted by a translator to help with the English.

Black Alliance for Peace Condemns the Federal Indictments of the Uhuru 3 and Denial of their Fundamental Human Rights to Speech, Association, Information and Political Dissent

 

Tampa, Florida — The process of jury selection on September 3rd, 2024, will mark the beginning of the federal trial of Omali Yeshitela, Chairman of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP); Penny Hess, Chair of the African People’s Solidarity Committee (APSC); and Jesse Nevel, Chair of the Uhuru Solidarity Movement (USM), together known as the Uhuru 3.

The Uhuru 3 were indicted by the U.S. government in April 2023 on the absurd charges of being “agents of a foreign government.” — charges very similar to the indictment of W.E.B. Dubois, the internationally known Black scholar and human rights defender. Dubois was eighty-one at the time of his indictment as a supposed agent of the Soviet Union for his anti-nuclear and pro-peace advocacy. Omali Yeshitela is similarly eighty-one with an international standing as a human rights and anti-imperialist fighter for more than 60 years. The African Peoples’s Socialist Party and Uhuru Movement that he helped to found have been organizing and advocating for African people and colonized peoples for over 50 years.

Ajamu Baraka, Chair of the Black Alliance for Peace’s (BAP) Coordinating Committee who will be an official observer of the trial states that:

“It is only in the imagination of white supremacists that African people would need smart white people from Russia to guide our people and movement to oppose the U.S./EU/NATO proxy war against Russia and analyze and comment on all aspects of U.S. foreign policy. Internationalism has always been a core principle of our movement from the Garvey Movement and anti-fascist struggles of Africans in America and in Spain in the form of the Abraham Lincoln Brigades, as well as the International Friends of Ethiopia that opposed the Italian invasion of Ethiopia, to our support for the liberation movements in Cuba, Haiti, Africa, Central America, and Vietnam.

Omali Yeshitela is an outstanding product and an example of that tradition, which, among many other reasons, is why BAP gives its inexorable support to chairman Yeshitela, as well as to Penny Hess and Jesse Nevel, who embody the highest example of revolutionary solidarity with African people. Hess and Nevel have stood with us, and we intend to stand with them against the criminal repression that the Uhuru 3 are targets of.”

BAP recognizes that the ridiculous charges leveled at the Uhuru 3 represent a shot across the bow of the radical Black movement. The U.S. understands that if it is successful in containing Black opposition to the increasingly aggressive militarism abroad and repression within the borders of the U.S., the broader movement in the U.S. will be more easily controlled.

BAP and our movement will not be intimated. We recognize that the complete abandonment of constitutional and human rights by the U.S. and other Western states represents an irreversible crisis of legitimacy. We will continue to stand in support of the right to resist as a core human right.

Sweden loses again in Poltava

 

The Battle of Poltava (1709) was the decisive victory of Peter I the Great of Russia over Charles XII of Sweden in the Great Northern War. The battle ended Sweden’s status as a major power. It was fought north and west of Poltava, west of the Vorskla River, in Ukraine, between 80,000 Russian troops under Peter the Great and the general Prince Aleksandr Menshikov and 17,000 Swedes under Charles XII. 

Poltava is currently one of the most important military installations of the Ukrainian forces in the Donbass region near the Russian border. Since 2014 the US-NATO has been helping Ukraine create various military strongholds throughout the Donbass. But these days the Russian military is pushing Ukraine out of this region. 

Inside Poltava were numbers of US-NATO advisers/mercenaries, along with Ukrainian forces, teaching various high-tech war fighting operations. On September 3 Russia hit this key training center & military barracks facility with two Iskander missiles. More than 500 were killed and hundreds more were wounded.

The strike on the 179th training center of the Signal Troops military institute in Poltava—officially called the Poltava Institute of Military Communications—was particularly grievous for Ukraine because it appeared to house not only a vital drone-technical program, but valuable Swedish instructors for the upcoming transfer of Swedish AWACS planes, billed as future ‘game changers’ that would work in coordination with the recently delivered nuclear capable F-16s to decimate targets in Russia from afar. 

The Swedish instructors, are at the center of the story. This was validated by a post from a woman who says her mate from Sweden’s Linkoping University perished in the Poltava attack:

Reports that Swedish 'instructors' among Ukrainian and other NATO soldiers killed in Russian strike, allegedly working to train Kiev cannon fodder pilots on Swedish-supplied AWACS aircraft.

Among the 'students' were several foreign instructors from Sweden - they were also killed. Britta Ellwanger, a foreign volunteer who was with them, writes about this. A few months ago, Sweden announced the transfer of two ASC 890 AWACS aircraft to Ukraine, and accordingly the Swedes trained future specialists on these planes.

On May 29th, 2024, the Swedish Ministry of Defense announced that two Airborne Surveillance and Control aircraft (ASC 890) will be sent to Ukraine, in the 16th military support package. 

 

 

Sweden has tried to take out Russia 14 times since 1475 with little success. Now here in 2024 Sweden has joined the US-UK-NATO attempt to break Russia into pieces. So far it's not working but many fear that the western war mongers could go nuclear in a desperate 'Hail Mary'. 

Swedish PM resigns

Now, only a day after the Poltava strikes reportedly wrecked the entire Swedish-Ukraine program, Sweden’s FM mysteriously resigns:

HELSINKI, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom said on Wednesday he will step down next week after almost two years in office, during which his traditionally non-aligned country joined NATO.

"It is with a mixture of sadness and pride that I have today informed the prime minister that I will leave the post of foreign minister at the opening of parliament next week," Billstrom, a member of the conservative Moderate Party, said in a post on X.

Just yesterday it was announced that a huge shakeup in the Ukrainian government had also occurred.  Here is the list of those who were pushed out. This indicates growing instability inside the Kiev government that is now illegitimate due to the fact that Zelensky has refused to allow national elections even though his term in office has expired. The Ukrainian parliament has also passed their time in office without having to stand for reelection.

All in all things are looking badly for the western anti-Russian operation. They've wasted lots of taxpayer monies, harmed their own economies, lost access to relatively cheap Russian natural gas, ruined their image with most of the Global South nations, and most importantly lost their national sovereignty to Washington who has used NATO and the EU as minions to be thrown at Russia.

Have these western characters learned not to attempt to destroy Russia? Looking at Sweden's 14 wars (now make it 15) aimed at Moscow it would seem that the EU bloc are very slow learners....

History lesson: US-NATO trains Nazis in Western Ukraine

 

 

Soon after the US orchestrated coup in Ukraine in 2014 the Pentagon established a military training base in western Ukraine (where the Nazis predominate) and Army Special Forces from Ft. Carson, Colorado were repeatedly sent to this base on temporary duty (TDY) to train these Nazi forces.  In this video then Obama Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt (from the famous 'F the EU' phone call with Victoria Nuland) takes a train ride to the base and brags about the training they were doing there.  I knew about this because the son of a friend was twice assigned from Ft. Carson to this base.  After the training the troops were sent to attack their fellow Ukrainian citizens in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine right along Russia's border.

 

 

Take a close look at this photo and see if you recognize any of the American politicians in this meeting with Ukrainian troops.  From the right to the left: Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Rep Marcy Kaptur (D-OH). The strategy was to have these troops get rid of their Nazi symbols and put on US supplied uniforms in order to disguise their true nature. A typical public relations gambit. This photo indicates the US 'bi-partisan' support for the war on the Donbass and Russia. 

 

Russia, Germany and France encouraged the Ukrainian government to negotiate the Minsk Agreements with the Independent Donbass republics in Donetsk and Lugansk.  The idea was to give the two Russian ethnic republics local autonomy where they would remain part of Ukraine but be allowed to decide for themselves what language they would speak and make other local political decisions.  The agreement also called for a ceasefire and reduction of tension and withdrawal from the line of contact by all troops. The Russians were not yet inside the Donbass but had supplied weapons to the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk republics self-defense forces. 

The Kiev government, still being armed, trained and directed by Washington, to this day has never honored the Minsk Agreements. Instead they have continued shelling the villages of eastern Ukraine. 

In 2022 former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko all admitted they never intended to honor the Minsk Agreements, but had used them to stall and buy time to further build up the Ukrainian military. Russian President Vladimir Putin told the Russian people, 'They played us'.

 

I was invited to visit the Donbass region by a labor union leader in 2019. I was taken to see the reality of the shelling by the Kiev regime against their own citizens.  This picture was an apartment block in Donetsk. Day care centers, hospitals, schools, airports, rail stations, bus stations, local shops, water treatment plants, churches and more in the Donbass have been continually shelled since 2014.

 

Ukraine has some of the richest farm soil in the world. They were the bread basket of the former Soviet Union. A law has been passed by the US dominated regime in Kiev that mandates the sale of the land to western agri-business interests.  Today BlackRock owns a lot of land in Ukraine and has recently complained about Ukrainian troops being buried on 'its land'.

 

Western Ukrainian Nazis attacked Russian-ethnic Ukrainian citizens in the Odessa Trades Hall on May 2, 2014 killing well over 50 of them. They had been gathering signatures outside the hall for a referendum calling for a 'federated Ukraine'.

 

I've been following this sad and tragic story virtually daily since the coup in Kiev in 2014. I've gone to Odessa in 2016 for the Mother's Memorial at the Trades Union Hall and to Russia in 2018 and 2019. During these trips I visited Moscow, Crimea, St. Petersburg and the Donbass region (Donetsk and Lugansk).  I have a pretty good handle on what is the true and what is not.  Bottom line is that US-NATO won't leave the region alone because the US wants regime change and break up of Russia. They want a more compliant government in Moscow that will serve western banking and resource extraction interests.  Russia refuses to take that untenable position - just like they refused to surrender while ultimately defeating Hitler's Nazi Army, but only after losing 30 million Soviet citizens. (Alternatively, the US lost less than 500,000 in WW2.)

So now we witness a time when the west has jacked up tensions so great in Ukraine-Russia that we face possible war between the two leading nuclear powers on the planet - the US and Russia.  It seems to me that folks ought to learn more about this tinder box since global survival is dependent upon peace in this part of the world.  US-NATO should have left Ukraine and Russia alone and let them work things out.

The end of Israel’s economy

 

As Israel’s genocidal war against Gaza continues unabated, the Israeli economy is facing a catastrophe. The physical destruction in Israel from the war has been minimal, but one thing has been destroyed: its future.

It is unheard of when the headlines of Israel’s mainstream newspapers and the slogans of the BDS movement are almost identical. No state on Earth has been able to inflict so much damage to the Israeli economy as the State of Israel itself, and the result is growing indications that the Israeli economy has reached an impasse, with no path forward as long as the state remains an apartheid Zionist state rejected by the whole world except the U.S and Germany.

When Israeli protestors against the government carried a huge sign with the BDS slogan “From startup nation to shutdown nation” it was nothing short of a copyright violation. But this was in February 2023. After October 7 everything changed.

Israel’s genocidal attack on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 40,000 Palestinians, more than 15,000 children and may well have doomed over 146,000 additional Palestinians from Gaza to die in the upcoming months from health complications due to injury, starvation and disease. The war has ruined the lives of 2.3 million people in the Gaza Strip, and of thousands in the occupied West Bank. Estimates by the UN are that 70% of the houses were destroyed, and that the rubble will take 15 years to clear. Nevertheless, there is little doubt that the Palestinian survivors of the genocide, though traumatized, impoverished and mourning their lost family members and friends, will eventually rebuild and recover, however long it may take.

The physical destruction in Israel inflicted by the war is minimal in comparison, and yet one thing has been destroyed: the country’s future.

The economic indicators speak of nothing less than an economic catastrophe. Over 46,000 businesses have gone bankrupt, tourism has stopped, Israel’s credit rating was lowered, Israeli bonds are sold at the prices of almost “junk bonds” levels, and the foreign investments that have already dropped by 60% in the first quarter of 2023 (as a result of the policies of Israel’s far-right government before October 7) show no prospects of recovery. The majority of the money invested in Israeli investment funds was diverted to investments abroad because Israelis do not want their own pension funds and insurance funds or their own savings to be tied to the fate of the State of Israel. This has caused a surprising stability in the Israeli stock market because funds invested in foreign stocks and bonds generated profit in foreign currency, which was multiplied by the rise in the exchange rate between foreign currencies and the Israeli Shekel. But then Intel scuttled a $25 billion investment plan in Israel, the biggest BDS victory ever.

These are all financial indicators. But the crisis strikes deeper at the means of production of the Israeli economy. Israel’s power grid, which has largely switched to natural gas, still depends on coal to supply demand. The biggest supplier of coal to Israel is Colombia, which announced that it would suspend coal shipments to Israel as long as the genocide was ongoing. After Colombia, the next two biggest suppliers are South Africa and Russia. Without reliable and continuous electricity, Israel will no longer be able to pretend to be a developed economy. Server farms do not work without 24-hour power, and no one knows how many blackouts the Israeli high-tech sector could potentially survive. International tech companies have already started closing their branches in Israel. 

 

Israel’s reputation as a “startup nation” depends on its tech sector, which in turn depends on highly educated employees. Israeli academics report that joint research with universities abroad has declined sharply thanks to the efforts of student encampments. Israeli newspapers are full of articles about the exodus of educated Israelis. Prof. Dan Ben David, a famous economist, argued that the Israeli economy is held together by 300,000 people (the senior staff in universities, tech companies, and hospitals). Once a significant portion of these people leaves, he says, “We won’t become a third world country, we just won’t be anymore.”

Data on the actual numbers of Israelis leaving the country is confusing and self-contradictory. In a time of great uncertainty, when Israeli newspapers are pumping disinformation about a global wave of antisemitism as if Jews would be more at risk in Europe or North America than they are in Israel, many Israelis are still opting for emigration — families are taking extended vacations, and other Israelis explore options for work and study abroad. Still, the estimates of the number of Israelis who have already left vary wildly.

The two sectors of the Israeli economy that do not report a crash are the arms companies, which are reporting high sales (although most of them are domestic, arming the genocide), and the “exits” — as international corporations scavenge the carcasses of Israel’s tech sector looking for bargains. Even Google expressed interest in buying the Israeli cyber security company Wiz, founded by Israeli intelligence officers who are eager to sell their company to Google in order to be able to leave Israel.

Israeli economists are expecting the Israeli government to take urgent action to deal with the crisis, end the war, cut public spending, raise taxes, restore public trust in Israel’s public institutions, and repair Israel’s foreign relations, especially with the countries that it depends upon for trade — the EU, Turkey, and Colombia. The Israeli government is instead implementing plans to destroy the Palestinian economy not only of Gaza but also of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. It adopts a belligerent approach towards any state that criticizes its policies and has passed a last-minute and unrealistic budget for 2024.

In the age of the information economy, the economic prospects of states are neither determined by raw materials nor the quality of the workforce. Instead, we live in an era of an “economy of expectations.” The hype of Israel’s “startup nation” has turned into a #Shutdownnation. Two senior Israeli economists, Jugene Kendel and Ron Tzur, published a secret report in which they predict that Israel will not survive to its 100th year. The report is kept secret because they do not want it to become a self-fulfilling prophecy, but they gave interviews about it. On Israel’s 76th Independence Day, Haaretz published an editorial on both its English and Hebrew editions, with the headline, “Will Israel survive to celebrate 100 years? Only if Netanyahu resigns.” The Hebrew edition was published without the qualification. Almost four months have passed and Netanyahu shows no signs of relinquishing power and is sabotaging negotiations for a ceasefire in order to prevent elections.

Three Israeli historians, two Zionists and one anti-Zionist, have declared that the Zionist project has come to an end. When a critical mass of Israelis, regardless of their political opinions, become convinced that Israeli apartheid has become unsustainable, they will no longer agree to invest energy and money and risk their lives and their families for the sake of the Zionist project. They will seek out a better future for themselves, as every sane person would, either by leaving Israel, or better yet, by working towards a new and democratic political system in Palestine. One person, one vote, and a future in which everyone of every religion and ethnicity can have a stake.

Really no substantial difference between them.....

 

If it sounds like Democrats and Republicans are reading from the same script, it’s because they both work for the same big donors.  Hollywood and Madison Avenue are producing this real time drama - made for TV.

When both parties chant USA, USA, USA (that was long considered to be an exclusively Republican chant) then you know that the American people are being boxed in by the mega-corporate branding and money. AIPAC and the MIC in action together.

Both of these corporate political parties are actually good at one key thing - dividing the nation against itself. That is just what the ruling oligarchs are paying so much money to have done. They are making an investment in distracting the public as they suck our life blood from our aching bodies. They are vampires.

Each party performs as agents of the CIA that does the private foreign policy work for Mr. Big.

Harris even announced that she will put a Republican in her cabinet if elected. Would you call that disingenuous pandering?

Be smart and don't get fooled once again. We don't have time for half-stepping.
