Congress Profits While Nepal Pays The Price

Lip service will not halt the flood of climate change catastrophes

As the death toll from the glacier collapse that flooded Nepal reaches 1,300+ souls, let us pause to examine the causes of this “unprecedented” effect. Unprecedented in part because early warning systems for flash floods in the China border region adjacent to the disaster zone appear to have failed. But also because a flash flood that looked like a three-story high tsunami is the poster child for galloping climate change in 2026.  

Remember when liberal Democrats joined 350.org to insist that “the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere considered the safe limit to avoid the worst impacts of climate change”? We are currently at 425.40 ppm. Successive warmongering Democratic administrations and congresses mouthed words to show support for the goal but continued funding the military which contributes most of any organization on Earth. Put another way, the fossil fuel consumption of the Pentagon (never mind its contractors) exceeds that of Nepal and 100+ other NATIONS.

Why did the Dems keep doing this? Profits, of course. Their stock portfolios are bulging as Nepalese families are buried in torrents of mud.

The more overtly fascistic of the U.S. corporate duopoly meanwhile will be highlighted as the climate villains. Can’t both things be true at once?
