We never get to hear the truth. The recent capture of five persons at Fairford (who were released) has led to a series of claims by the US and British media and politicians that Iran was attempting to blow up Fairford. Total BS. The western colonizers always lie about their false flag events.
If Iran wanted to hit Fairford they would have sent a long--range missile not five inept men who waited and waited til they got caught by a local farmer.
RAF Fairford is actually a US air warfare base.
All the way back to the repeated US-UK war$ on Iraq this base hosted B-52 bombers. These same planes aoong with B-1 & B-2 bombers were sent from Fairford to bomb Iran.
The US has many bases throughout the UK with even more on the way.
