On Oct. 7th, the Jeju Emergency Action Statement on One Year of Gaza Genocide came out from the rally, “Israel, Stop the Genocide Now!” “Genocide-complicit Hanwha, Get Out of Jeju!”
Amid rain, more than 50 people kept the site, bringing attention from the passers-by. Some of them joined us for chanting.
The rally was during the Keep Space for Peace Week. Thank you, Bruce Gagnon, , for your inspiring non-violent action against the Israel arms company Elbit System. The South Korean arms company Hanwha has been cooperating with the Elbit in war business and building the space center in Jeju.
We express grave concern about the fact that Jeju is being promoted as a base for profit-making by war enterprises regardless of the will of Jeju residents, and demand the following:
- Israel, stop the occupation and genocide of Palestine now!
- Liberation, independence, and peace for Palestine! Ceasefire Now! Free Palestine!
- Israel, stop the spread of war and genocide to neighboring countries!
- Hanwha, stop all business activities including MOUs and arms contracts with Elbit Systems, ELTA Systems, and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), and stop your complicity in Israel's genocide in Palestine and war in the Middle East!
- Stop the space industry and space militarization for war and genocide!
- Stop the construction of Hanwha's war industry space center and the tentatively named Hawon Techno Campus!
- No weapons companies in the special groundwater management zone!
- Hanwha, stop depleting and threatening Jeju's groundwater, the lifeblood of Jeju residents, and get out of Jeju!
- Jeju is not Hanwha's colony. War financier Hanwha, get out of Jeju!
The South Korean government and Hanwha, which are complicit in Israel's illegal genocide and war crimes through arms cooperation, must immediately stop profiting from genocide and war!
