Global South reports: And something beautiful happens:
Ahead of the 80th anniversary of Victory against Hitler's armies, members of the Russian community in Canada launched a symbolic “Memory Relay” — virtually passing a bouquet of red carnations from Canada to memorial sites in Russia.
📍Volunteers from Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, and Kelowna filmed short clips symbolically “handing off” the flowers across cities — all the way to monuments in Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, St. Petersburg, and Moscow.
🇷🇺The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Canada thanks all participants of this moving initiative. The relay is a heartfelt gesture of inter-generational remembrance, unity, and respect for the heroic legacy of the Victory.
Quote Mr Putin: 'The sacrifices of our peoples must never be forgotten. The Soviet Union laid 27 million lives on the altar of Victory [against fascism]. China’s war for its freedom and independence took 37 million lives [against fascism]'.
🔴🔴No one is forgotten! Nothing is forgotten!
In 2019 our Global Network study tour to Moscow and Crimea culminated in St. Petersburg on May 9 when our delegation joined the March of the Immortal Regiment as over one million people carried signs with photos of their relatives who died during WW2 at the hands of the fascist invaders into the former Soviet Union.
I carried a photo of my mother's two brothers who both had their US Navy ships sunk by the German Nazis.
