Imagine my shock and delight as we drove past my sister's church in Northwest Iowa. MB and I have come for a visit with my sister (one of five sisters in my family, no brothers except me) who is now valiantly fighting cancer.

The church sits on the main drag in town - standing tall for truth and justice in an otherwise rock-ribbed Republican part of the state. It's corn, soybeans and pig country here. Reagan and Trump country.

We went to the Easter Sunday service today and I spoke with the pastor and told him how pleasantly surprised I was to see their flashing sign by the road. I asked if he is getting any push-back and he responded yes, though social justice and peace are at the core of their Methodist denomination. 

I thanked him and wished him well.

My sister told me the pastor does two services at two different churches each week. He dresses in blue jeans and sports a bushy beard. Many in the church are also dressed in jeans - remember this is farm country.

I wish more churches (including Methodist ones) around the country followed the courageous example of the one here in Arnold's Park, Iowa.  

They are en-fleshing the message of Christ's love and call for peace. Especially as we see the Holy Land engulfed in genocidal bombs delivered by zionist Israel provided by the US and EU nations.
