The sacred rocky coastline
(called Gureombi) of Gangjeong village on Jeju Island, South Korea has been
transformed into a Navy base for US warships that will encircle China's coast. The US Navy handed the base
specifications to the Korean Navy and told the Korean government to build the
base. The Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins, of which only 114 remain in Korea,
regularly pass just off the coast of Gangjeong village and directly through the
area that is now the naval base. Navy Aegis destroyers, built at BIW in Bath,
will be ported at this new base.
