Growing numbers of U.S. soldiers in Iraq are showing their disenchantment with the war. The Bush team has responded by increasing their recruitment of mercenary troops from Latin American countries (El Salvador, Honduras, Columbia, etc). Some in the peace movement predict a coming draft. I don't see it happening any time soon. The legions of jobs leaving the U.S. will ensure that poor and working class kids will keep joining the military as few other options exist for them.

Good to see that the old 'One weekend a month my a**' sign is making the rounds, nearly twenty years after I saw my first.

When the troops _stop_ bitching and hanging up signs you know you're in trouble.

My own favority sign was a banner that our Ops officer hung in his workspace as JTF Sea Angel was winding down in '91;

"We're done Sir, can we go home now?"

I DO love that pic :)

Huh!?

The fellow who publishes a picture of an Israeli tank with a Palestinian kid lobbing a rock at it to illustrate a point about Iraq ... well you expect facts?

I admit this one is a bit of a head scratcher. Possibly he is referring to those countries being member of the coalition. Or not as that does not meet the definition of 'mercenary'.

My friend, what are you doing to reverse this trend? Starting a business? Employing working class (and poor) kids in a shop or trade? Meeting a payroll? Providing a good or service that others will pay for and creating wealth? Anything besides the professional busybody trade?

when the U.S. military can't meet recruitment goals by tricking impressionable young 24-year-olds into enlisting, or sending out press gangs to kidnap teenagers into the Marines,

Go plug yourself, you condescending prick.

"secret drafting" National Guard troops

IT IS IN THE CONTRACT. VERY few people are surprised by their commitments. Those that ARE surprised can outprocess within 1 year of enlistment. That is called "Failure to adapt".

entrapping the "expendable" people who have too much melanin, too little money, and no way out

Cause we know those blackies are dumb neanderthals that are like putty in the hands of the "white" man, and can not survive without your help.

It's a fact!

No, facts are things that can be proven. THESE are baseless allegations, vile racism, and condescention of the highest level.

That pic is over 2 years old btw. But don't let that slow you down.

Um, legions of jobs leaving? The economy has generated nearly 4 million new jobs since May 2003, and the unemployment rate is 5 percent, the lowest since before September 11. Certainly there are jobs leaving, but apparently there are a lot more being created. Few options my arse; if you can't find a job in a rapidly expanding economy with a 5% and falling unemployment rate, that says a lot more about you than it does about the economy. Darn those pesky facts...
