Citizen diplomacy still exists in Archangel, Russia

By Regis Tremblay

I was a jury member for the Arctic Open Film Festival in Archangel. Archangel is a fairly large city in Russia's Arctic, some 1090 Km from Moscow.

Regis is from Waterville, Maine and today lives in Yalta, Crimea where he makes videos about life in Russia. He moved to Crimea some years ago after having traveled to Russia several times filming citizen diplomacy trips around that country.

He was recently given a prestigious award by the Russian government for his tireless work with the Friends of Crimea organization.

BTW, Archangel and the City of Portland, ME have been sister cities since 1988. I mention this in this short film. More on that later. So many in Archangel treasure this relationship with Portland.

Sadly it is my understanding that the Portland sister-city committee is virtually dissolved. Most of their members ran for cover over Ukraine. I know one man that was on the committee who still cares and visited Archangel.
