The Electoral Debacle

My first vote
'72 for McGovern
he lost big
49 states
went for
trickie Dick

It's been downhill
since that
sad night

Last night's
election returns
one more
sled ride
into the land
of Velveeta
endless war

The oligarchy
knows how
to spin the people
warp their minds
create false anger
and outrage
that benefits
the corporate agenda
people vote
against their
own interests

I've learned
not to put
all my hopes
in the ballot box
or the rigged
voting machine
I lived in Florida
during days of
hanging chads

My salvation
is the sidewalk
holding my sign
sucking exhaust
from passing
monster trucks
driven by workers
who vote for
three-piece suit
version of fascism
the wedding of
and government

Nixon impeached
after his big victory
the truth always
from the edge
of the curb
on an American
