TURKISH PROTESTS SPREAD TO 67 CITIES

  • The unrest in Turkey has claimed a second life. Police, already facing widespread criticism for using excessive force, are being accused of being behind the killing of a 22-year-old man. Human rights groups have also called out the security forces in Turkey for their brutal response to the protests. You may find some of the images in the video disturbing.
  • 38 youngsters are taken into custody because they have tweeted. A lawyer from the Izmir Bar Association and the deputy Muharrem İnce (the Republican People’s Party) confirmed the arrests. Muharrem İnce wrote the following: "The father of one young man who was arrested reported that the police entered his house, they searched the house, then they brought him to the bureau. The reason behind is the twitter of the guy. The police seized his mobile phone. Now I understand why the Prime Minister Edogan accuses twitter!”
  • The last message of 22-year-old Abdullah Cömert, killed by the police yesterday in Armutlu, was so impressive: "We will die in the streets for the revolution."

Here’s the message:

I only got five hours of sleep in three days. I was exposed to gas bombs so many times. Three times I had a close brush with death. And do you know what people say: ‘Is it you to save the country?’ Yes. Even if we can’t save it, we will die for it. I am so much tired. For three days, I am standing with seven energy drinks and nine pain pills. I have got a hoarse voice but I am still on the streets since six o’clock in the morning. Just for the revolution!
