U.S. Inching Up on Covert Attacks on Syrian Government

Top Washington officials are set to discuss striking positions of the Syrian military without a UN Security Council resolution. Bombing air force runways with missiles fired from coalition planes and ships is being considered, according to a report.

"One proposed way to get around the White House’s objection to striking the Assad regime without a UN Security Council resolution would be to carry out the strikes covertly and without public acknowledgment,” one administration official who is to take part in the discussions told the Washington Post.

If Washington takes this 'covert' course it will pit the Pentagon and CIA directly against the Russian military that was invited into Syria by the government.  This would likely mean formal war.

Protest at Arctic Council Events in Portland

Today 25 of us gathered in Portland, Maine at noon to protest outside an event being held inside the Museum of Art by corporate entities promoting the coming possibilities of 'exploitation' of the Arctic region due to the escalating reality of climate change.

Maine's Sen. Angus King gathered some federal seed money to attract the Arctic Council's annual meeting in Portland.  All week various entities, including a couple of the big corporate legal firms, are holding events in conjunction with the Arctic Council's official meeting - which by the way is a secret meeting, no public citizens or even the media are allowed to attend.

I knew that Sen. King had gone on a US Navy nuclear submarine ride under the Arctic sea in 2014 and has been a big promoter of the idea of exploitation of the region - particularly for Maine.  While Sen. King does talk about climate change, and was once a proponent of wind turbines being put in the Gulf of Maine, he lately has shown much greater interest in development possibilities to 'take advantage' of melting ice as well as the militarization of the Arctic region.  In fact when I called into a statewide radio program he was on a couple of days ago he suggested I go protest in Moscow after I had commented on his participation in efforts to demonize Russia over control of the Arctic.

Also on the 2014 submarine ride was Adm. Jonathan Greenert, at that time the chief of naval operations.  In a New York Times Op-Ed by Thomas Friedman, Adm. Greenert said, “In our lifetime, what was [in effect] land and prohibitive to navigate or explore, is becoming an ocean, and we’d better understand it....We need to be sure that our sensors, weapons and people are proficient in this part of the world,” so that we can “own the undersea domain and get anywhere there.”

Our protest today was covered by a local TV station (CH 6) and Maine Public radio.  We made a couple key points:

What we need are national and international efforts to deal with climate change. We call for the immediate demilitarization of the Arctic. We can’t afford to turn the Arctic into a war zone, nor can we have a mad rush to drill for fossil fuels across the region. The Arctic Council should work to prevent these things from happening, not promote them. Thursday's protest was intended to show the Arctic Council and Sen. Angus King that the public is deeply concerned about climate change and is watching what they do. We also call for the conversion of the military industry complex so our tax dollars can be used to build commuter rail systems, solar power, wind turbines and tidal power systems.  Studies show that we'd get more jobs from building sustainable technologies which could help in a small way to deal with the coming ravages of climate change.  But we must act now to transform our fossil fuel dependent culture.  The public must speak out loudly now before it is too late!

At the protest I also talked about how Russia has the largest land border with the Arctic. One key reason why the US-NATO are pushing for regime change in Moscow is because the fossil fuel extraction corporations are itching to break Russia up into smaller countries so it would be easier for these oil interests to cut deals with weaker and more isolated nations to drill off their Arctic coasts.  Russia of course sees the writing on the wall and has defensively moved to ensure that the western pirates are not able to come and steal the treasure that was once inaccessible under the ice along their northern coastline.

Thanks to those who came out today to help direct some public attention onto this important issue.  Poco y poco.....

Remember the History.....

Pumping Up War with Russia

Here is part of the CBS TV 60 Minutes program that ran two weeks ago pumping up the potential for war with Russia.

First they demonize Russia and lie about what really happened in Ukraine and Crimea.

They bring on the show recently retired NATO Commander Gen. Philip M. Breedlove who is a war hungry joker.  During and after the US coup d'etat in Ukraine Breedlove was repeatedly found by German media to be making highly provocative statements toward Russia.

Yesterday I found two articles reporting that Russia was holding a nuclear evacuation drill involving 40 million people across their country.  Obviously Russia feels they must be prepared as they witness the US camping out along their borders from one end of their country to the other.

This video continues the typical western media speculation where they imagine Russia will do this or that while attempting to appear as though the US is nothing more than an innocent law abiding bystander.

You'd never know watching this TV 'news' report that it is the US which continues to invade, bomb, and destabilize the world.  When a country like Russia reacts with defensive measures to protect themselves they are then demonized in order to prepare the American people for the next steps - which usually means a US 'shock and awe' invasion.

We forget what the US recently has done in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen and Syria at our own peril.

I'm not in favor of any nuclear weapons in any country.  But let's be real here for a moment - what incentive does Russia or China have to reduce their nukes when the Pentagon's fist is pounding on their front and back doors?

Syria - The U.S. Propaganda Shams Now Openly Fail

From Moon of Alabama

The Obama administration, and especially the CIA and the State Department, seem to be in trouble. They shout everything they can against Russia and allege that the cleansing of east-Aleppo of al-Qaeda terrorist is genocidal. Meanwhile no mention is ever made of the famine of the Houthis in Yemen which the U.S. and Saudi bombing and their blockade directly causes.

But more and more major news accounts support the Russian allegation that the "moderate rebels" the U.S. is coddling in Syria are actually in cahoots with al-Qaeda if not al-Qaeda itself.
Reuters reports (though only at the end of a longer story):
In Aleppo, rebels in the Free Syrian Army are sharing operational planning with Jaish al-Fatah, an alliance of Islamist groups that includes the former Syrian wing of al Qaeda. Meanwhile, in nearby Hama province, FSA groups armed with U.S.-made anti-tank missiles are taking part in a major offensive with the al Qaeda-inspired Jund al-Aqsa group.
The Wall Street Journal is more direct and headlining: Syria Rebels Draw Closer to al Qaeda-Linked Group
Some of Syria’s largest rebel factions are doubling down on their alliance with an al Qaeda-linked group, despite a U.S. warning to split from the extremists or risk being targeted in airstrikes.
...
Some rebel groups already aligned with Syria Conquest Front responded by renewing their alliance. But others, such as Nour al-Din al-Zinki, a former Central Intelligence Agency-backed group and one of the largest factions in Aleppo, pledged allegiance for the first time to the front in recent days.
Indeed the al.Qaeda affiliate Fateh al-Sham announced publicly that the CIA's Nour el-Din Zinki and Suqour al-Sham joined its Jihad.

As little back as August the State Department defended Zinki after some of its member abducted a Palestinian boy from a hospital near Aleppo and beheaded him in front of a video camera:
[I]n State Department briefings, [..] spokesman Mark Toner downplayed the incidents, or the possibility that the US would stop arming Nour al-Din al-Zinki just because they beheaded a child..
...
Toner insisted [..] “one incident here and there would not necessarily make you a terrorist group.”
The new news reports follow after an interview by the German former politician and journalist Jürgen Todenhöfer with an al-Qaeda commander published in English on this site. The commander said that Nusra (aka al-Qaeda) were directly supplied, via a subgroup, with U.S. TOW missiles. He added about such groups:
They are all with us. We are all the al-Nusra Front. A groups is created and calls itself "Islamic Army", or "Fateh al-Sham". Each group has its own name but their believe is homogeneous. The general name is al-Nusra Front. One person has, for example, 2,000 fighters. Then he creates from these a new group and calls it "Ahrar al-Sham". Brothers, who's believe, thoughts and aims are identical to those of al-Nusra Front.
Another interview recently published by the former military Jack Murphy was with a Green Beret soldier who served in Turkey and Syria. The Green Berets are special forces of the U.S. Army. They are specialists in training and  fighting with indigenous guerrilla groups against governments the U.S. dislikes. The soldier interviewed was ordered to train "moderate Syrian rebels" in Turkey. Parts of the interview (paywalled) are quoted here:
"No one on the ground believes in this mission or this effort”, a former Green Beret writes of America’s covert and clandestine programs to train and arm Syrian insurgents, “they know we are just training the next generation of jihadis, so they are sabotaging it by saying, ‘Fuck it, who cares?’”. “I don’t want to be responsible for Nusra guys saying they were trained by Americans,” the Green Beret added.
...
Murphy states bluntly: “distinguishing between the FSA and al-Nusra is impossible, because they are virtually the same organization. As early as 2013, FSA commanders were defecting with their entire units to join al-Nusra. There, they still retain the FSA monicker, but it is merely for show, to give the appearance of secularism so they can maintain access to weaponry provided by the CIA and Saudi intelligence services. The reality is that the FSA is little more than a cover for the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra. ...
It is one thing when Russia says somesthing, but another when Reuters, WSJ, and independent German and U.S. subject experts report this as facts. The first can be shunned as "Putin lies" but the others are extremely hard to refute.

The Russians are right. The U.S. did not separate the "moderate rebels" from al Qaeda, as it had agreed to in the ceasefire agreement, because the "moderates" and al-Qaeda are the same. The "moderates" are al-Qaeda. This was not unknown. The 2012 Defense Intelligence Analysis said as much. The CIA of course knew this all along. But the Saudi tool heading the CIA, John Brennan, can not admit such as his masters in the Gulf are also the ones who finance al-Qaeda.

Space Week Event at BIW

Yesterday about 35 of us gathered in Bath, Maine for our Keep Space for Peace Week event in solidarity with others around the world.

At Bath Iron Works (BIW) the Navy Aegis destroyer is built that is outfitted with so-called 'missile defense' systems which are key elements in Pentagon first-strike attack planning.  The interceptor missiles on-board these ships are the 'shield' that would be used to knock out Russian or Chinese retaliatory strikes after a US first-strike.

In 2008 the Navy used an Aegis destroyer's interceptor missile to knock a failed US satellite out of the sky demonstrating that these systems could also serve a role as an anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon.

We gathered in front of the BIW administration building and then walked down the street to a gate where workers filed out at noon from their weekend shift at the shipyard.

Once we were finished with the protest we all gathered at a local church for a pot luck lunch and rehearsal for the coming trial of the Zumwalt 12 who were arrested on June 18 for blocking the entrance to the 'christening' of the second Navy Zumwalt stealth destroyer.  Each of us made a statement of why we were arrested that day and the audience performed the role of the jury giving us feedback on our statements.

At the top of this post you can see the statement of Connie Jenkins. (Thanks to Lisa Savage for making the video.  See Lisa's full report on the event here.)

Is This Our Future?

The Making of U.S. War Base on Diego Garcia

As Keep Space for Peace Week begins a conference is being held on Mauritius by the people removed from Diego Garcia by the Americans in order to take over the atoll for a US war base.

This is just one story amongst many showing how the US has destroyed the lives of people around the world in order to build the Pentagon imperial war machine.

Here are the conference details:

Port Louis, Mauritius (Oct 1-2) LALIT 2nd Action Conference called “Diego Garcia: 50 Years’ Occupation & Banishment, 50 Year’s Struggle”.  Topics include: The secret history of the U.S. Military Base on Diego Garcia and its role as a key installation in the Air Force’s Satellite Control Network.  Contact: raj8@intnet.mu

Sleep Walking Toward WW III

Here is a video about about why and how the madmen in the State Department, Pentagon and Congress are pushing us to the brink of war with Russia and Syria.

Can we begin to realize that virtually every bit of news, every word, that comes from the western media is a corporate war machine planted story?  They have one intention - to neutralize the public outrage and the peace movement and sell endless war.

Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen and Syria - it is all the same story! People must stop buying the endless lies.....

Washington Changes THAAD Deployment Site Plan

Message from South Korea:

In the morning of Sept. 30, the South Korea Ministry of National Defense notified that the ROK and US authorities decided the Lotte Skyhill golf club site for the deployment of the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) missile defense system.

The golf club site in Seongju is just next to Gimcheon and huge protests above all by the citizens of Seongju and Gimcheon and followers of Won Buddhism are expected.  The Won Buddhism has its sacred places close to the site.

The deployment of the THAAD in Korea is surely a hell gate which threatens peace in the Asia Pacific and World.

Is it just coincident that tomorrow, Oct. 1 remembers the 73rd year of the ROK-US mutual defense treaty as well as the 70th National holiday for the Republic of Korea Armed Forces?

As soon as the Ministry of National defense made a notice on it, it set up the wire-fence in front of its building area as if it is afraid of people's coming protests.

THAAD should be withdrawn. Dangerous ROK-US-Japan war alliance should be stopped. Missile Defense (equals offense) should be stopped.

Keep Space for Peace Week should be remembered!

Ask the Native Americans: Washington always Breaks its Promises

Political commentator Marwa Osman talks to RT International on the latest developments in the Syrian crisis.

The thing that drives me most crazy is the phony outrage by the western media about the poor innocent civilians being killed in Syria.  Come on.....

Since when does the US-NATO give a damn about innocent civilians being killed - how about 'shock and awe' in Iraq? How about Washington's longest war in US history in Afghanistan? How about the carnage to civilians in Yemen by Saudi Arabia with total US support?  Did the western media ever demand apologies from Washington for killing legions of innocent people?  Never!

The US and its allies (Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, UK) are funding, arming, and directing ISIS in Syria and those terrorists are responsible for thousands of innocent deaths and hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing from Syria.

In fact the western media daily covers up their war crimes in Syria.

I have to come back to the wider US goal at work here - take down Syria as a step toward isolating and forcing regime change in Iran.

Larry Johnson, retired CIA intelligence officer and State Department official told Radio Sputnik that:
Whereas the US policy is "all over the board," with a visible divide between the Department of Defense and the CIA. The CIA supports radical Islamists and the Department of Defense tries to kill them," he said.

"So it is just absurd that we are on the one hand talking about the tough game of fighting terrorism and yet behind the scenes providing financing and weapons to the same very terrorists," he told Sputnik.
The former CIA officer also explained US' focus on Syria, and why it remains in the spotlight. "It is [all about] Iran, Iran is the critical factor determining the policy in the region. Saudi Arabia and Turkey, to a lesser extent, and Qatar and the Persian Gulf are very worried about the ascendance of Iran in the region, both politically and militarily. And that has been facilitated by the US invasion of Iraq in 2003," he said.
Once Saddam Hussein was taken out of power, Johnson explained, the majority Shia population took control of the country. They have always had very close ties with Iran because many of the leaders of Iraq were sheltered in Iran during the previous years when Saddam Hussein was in power.
"What has been literally driving the US policy, this effort to try to contain Iran and to accommodate traditional US allies in the region without staying true to its policy of combating terrorism."
The US continues to play this hypocritical power game in Syria and uses the western media to hide the truth from the public.  The media utilizes a strategy, similar to the one used by US Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, to counter attack and divert attention by calling Russian and Syrian attempts to actually fight terrorists "barbarism".

Washington wants to talk about barbarism!?  All it has to do is look in the mirror!

A Conspiracy of Silence

U.S. Supporting Radical Terrorists in Syria

The US holds Russia responsible for the violence in Aleppo and is threatening to break off all cooperation with Moscow in Syria, the State Department said.

Russia is asking the US to live up to its obligation to separate the US-backed opposition from terrorists.

Former US diplomat Jim Jatras joins ‘News with Ed’ and says, “the Obama administration is supporting radical Islamic terrorism in Syria.”
