| US Army delivered components of the THAAD missile interceptor system into the village a few years ago. Because of the protests opposing the new US missile base in Soseong-ri the farmers and supporters from around the country tried to block the deployments. Thousands of South Korean police were repeatedly sent to keep the streets open for the Army vehicles carrying the missile systems. Like on Jeju Island, the people in the village continue to protest the missile base. |

Good news for now (by Simone Chun) —but this is not over. Our immediate and global solidarity is making a real impact! The effort to forcefully evict the anti-THAAD protest site has been temporarily halted.
As you know, peace movements and communities across South Korea, from Gangjeong in Jeju to Soseong-ri in Seongju, symbolize citizen and community-led nonviolent resistance to U.S. militarism.
Their presence is a beacon in the face of expanding U.S.-led militarism, whose only end is war.
The next scheduled enforcement is November 28. Let us stand united!

The dollar domination is on the way out....
John Kiriakou is a former CIA officer and whistleblower known for his role in exposing the agency's use of torture.
In 2007, Kiriakou publicly revealed details about the CIA's torture program, specifically the use of waterboarding.
His disclosures led to significant media attention and discussions about U.S. interrogation practices.
In 2012, Kiriakou was convicted of leaking classified information and sentenced to 30 months in prison.
He was released in 2015 after serving part of his sentence.
Venezuela & Palestine protest Saturday in Augusta, Maine
We will be in Augusta on Saturday at the Civic Center Dr. intersection at 1:30 pm.
On Thursday we had our weekly Palestine & Venezuela solidarity vigil at noon at the busiest intersection in Brunswick, Maine for an hour. We've been holding these weekly Thursday vigils since February, 2022.
There were seven of us out yesterday on a sunny but cold day.

China’s clean-energy revolution will reshape markets and politics

The SCALE of the renewables revolution in China is almost too vast for the human mind to grasp. By the end of last year, the country had installed 887 gigawatts of solar-power capacity—close to double Europe’s and America’s combined total. The 22m tonnes of steel used to build new wind turbines and solar panels in 2024 would have been enough to build a Golden Gate Bridge on every working day of every week that year. China generated 1,826 terawatt-hours of wind and solar electricity in 2024, five times more than the energy contained in all 600 of its nuclear weapons.
In the context of the cold war, the distinctive measure of a “superpower” was the combination of a continental span and a world-threatening nuclear arsenal. The coming-together of China’s enormous manufacturing capacity and its ravenous appetite for copious, cheap, domestically produced electricity deserves to be seen in a similar world-changing light. They have made China a new type of superpower: one which deploys clean electricity on a planetary scale.
As a consequence, China is reshaping the world’s energy outlook, its geopolitics and its capacity to limit the catastrophic effects of climate change. The main reason countries have yet to decarbonise their economies is because they lack the means to do so. And that is what China is fixing. It is providing ever greater amounts of clean-energy capacity to the world at prices which are cheaper than any alternative, including coal and natural gas.
China can produce almost a terawatt of renewable-energy capacity in a year. That is enough to supply as much energy as more than 300 big nuclear-power plants. And the dynamic that created all this generating capacity is far from exhausted. China’s huge demand—it generates a third of the world’s electricity—is being met by ever more efficient production which makes the end product cheaper and cheaper. This, in turn, allows it to meet even more demand, and so on. The subsidies that started to turn this virtuous circle are increasingly beside the point; indeed, many are being withdrawn.
Thanks to this capacity—and a tendency to set itself easy targets—China has exceeded, or is on course to exceed, most of the pledges it has made under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change since signing the Paris agreement ten years ago. The politicians, negotiators, lobby groups and hangers-on gathering in Brazil for the 30th UNFCCC’s COP summit will do so in a context shaped by China’s latest pledges to more than double the country’s renewable-energy capacity and make a modest but quantified cut in emissions by 2035. (Both targets may well be exceeded.)
As important, China is exporting its revolution to the rest of the world. America’s current government rejects renewable technologies. In Europe industry is hollowing out and voters are rebelling against expensive green policies. But it is in developing countries that the fight against climate change will be won or lost, and it is there that Chinese renewables will make the most difference.
China is now making more money from exporting green technology than America makes from exporting fossil fuels. This trend will continue simply because renewables are cheap; if you doubt the appeal, count the solar panels on Pakistani roofs. The work China does on cutting emissions at home—ever cheaper renewables, more abundant storage which makes those renewables more useful, better electricity markets, long transmission lines and all sorts of associated expertise—will thus be increasingly relevant, and sellable, beyond its borders.
This anti-emissions machine is powered by self-interest. More clean tech elsewhere lowers China’s own climate risks by reducing global emissions. At the same time it brings economic benefits. For many years countries’ economic and climate interests have often been thought to diverge, encouraging a free-rider problem in which they seek the benefits of slowing climate change while dodging its costs. Today the economic and climate incentives of the world’s biggest manufacturer and many of its export markets are increasingly aligned.
Let the sunshine in
Although the possibility of reducing greenhouse-gas emissions so dramatically as to limit the increase in global temperatures to just 1.5°C—endorsed in Paris—now lies firmly in the past, solar and wind offer the best hope of limiting further rises. And even if climate change is not your priority, you should be excited at the prospect of cheap, abundant clean energy and its promise to improve billions of lives in developing countries. The world needs what China has to offer. It should take it.

Washington wants 'cover' not peace in Ukraine

So now The Guardian admits it: capitulation from Kiev. After turning Ukraine into a four-year slaughterhouse for the neocons, burning through [well over] $400 billion, and feeding a nation into the trenches like coal into a furnace, Washington wants “peace”?
No, DC wants cover. Because the empire finally sees what the battlefield already wrote in blood... Russia won.
Let’s stop pretending this is diplomacy. This is the geopolitical version of a bankruptcy filing.
The Guardian, like Axios and Reuters, reports a 28-point peace plan built in backchannels between Trump’s envoy Witkoff and Kremlin adviser Dmitriev, after the Trump-Putin Alaska summit. On paper: ceasefire, security guarantees, a new European security architecture. But the panic behind it is unmistakable.

The battlefield forced this, not diplomacy. Pokrovsk is effectively gone. Zaporizhzye is collapsing. Kupiansk and Seversk also collapsing. Manpower is collapsing. Mobilization is broken. Desertions 4x higher than 2024. And beneath that, the silent ledger of death: a horrific 18.5-to-1 exchange ratio, Ukrainian cemeteries expanding faster than the government can hide obituary notices. The war’s real statistics are written in headstones, with over a million Ukranians sacrificed for the Empire.
The budget is a crater patched with a €140B imaginary loan backed by Russian assets Europe still won’t confiscate because what’s left of the Western financial order would be decimated.
And here’s what The Guardian doesn’t say...
Ukraine had off-ramps. Real ones.
Minsk, a gift for Ukraine until Kiev tossed it aside with contempt under Western pressure. Istanbul still offered reasonable terms, until Boris Johnson flew into Kiev like an imperial proconsul and ordered Zelensky to tear it up, to keep Ukraine dying. And Zelensky obeyed.
That’s why the Trump-Putin Alaska summit is back from the dead. Not out of hope from the West, out of fear, out of humiliation.
Here’s the part The Guardian won’t print: this ends in capitulation whether Kiev signs or not.
If Zelensky signs, the West will quietly transition to a post-Zelensky brutal reality, not to honour him, but because his usefulness ends the moment the ink dries. He’ll get the Saakashvili [former corrupt President of Georgia and US agent] treatment. Zelensky should have studied that trajectory, it was a preview of his own.
If Zelensky refuses? Then the machinery that’s been light on the depths of the corruption scandal (it’s far greater than a mere €100M) will roar to life.
Ukraine’s own anti-corruption bodies — NABU, SAPO, the prosecutors Washington funds and influences, will not need permission to “discover” what they’ve conveniently overlooked for years. They will not need instructions to dredge up tenders, shell companies, offshore trails, scandals that dwarf golden-toilet jokes and basic energy kickbacks.
This is what happens to Western-backed puppets who reach their expiry date. Ask Saakashvili. He didn’t get a retirement ceremony, he got a cell.
Zelensky is not being positioned for honour. He is being positioned for disposal.
The Guardian headline says “capitulation.” But the deeper truth is this: the war will not end in negotiation. It will end when the political edifice built around Zelensky collapses under the weight of the very corruption the West once tolerated and now stands ready to weaponize for the clean-up phase.
And in the background, NATO sits humiliated, 32 nations, trillions spent, an industrial base in ruins, unable to defeat a country it once dismissed as “a gas station with nukes.”
Call the draft whatever you like... framework, roadmap, peace plan. It’s none of those things. It is the administrative paperwork of total defeat, NATO’s defeat, cosmic humiliation.
Because the empire isn’t seeking peace. It’s seeking a way to exit the disaster it engineered, without owning a single drop of the blood it spilled. But it will own the humiliation. And that humiliation will be cosmic.

German draft plan triggers mass protest call
Germany is poised to reinstate mandatory military service as the government seeks to boost its armed forces. Conscription has been suspended since 2011, but a new law set to take effect on January 1 will begin with a voluntary model that could pave the way for a broader draft.
The potential return to conscription is driven by a critical personnel shortage in the armed forces, with young people increasingly opting for civilian careers over the military.
Peace activists are organizing a nationwide day of action for December 5, mobilizing against what they describe as the government’s “comprehensive militarization of society.”
“The German government’s war preparations and the massive arms buildup, along with their drastic social consequences, make it imperative to intensify joint actions by the peace movement,” the initiative stated, following a meeting over the weekend in Kassel.
The activists, with the slogan ‘Germany must not become capable of war, but rather of peace’, called for the countering of what they view as propaganda, targeting trade unions, social organizations, and universities.
“Militarization is propagated as ‘security policy,’ while it undermines social, health, and education policies, as well as infrastructure,” the movement said.
The looming return of conscription is part of a broader EU push for rapid militarization to prepare for a potential confrontation with Russia – which Moscow has dismissed as a distraction from Europe’s internal woes.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz has vowed to transform the armed forces into the “strongest conventional army in Europe.” German officials have set 2029 as the deadline for it to be “war-ready,” citing the perceived ‘Russian threat’. Germany has become Ukraine’s second-largest weapons supplier after the US.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused Merz of attempting to turn Germany back into “the main military machine of Europe,” saying Berlin’s actions demonstrate its “direct involvement” in a proxy war against Russia.
This comes as Germany grapples with what economists have called a “dramatic” decline, characterized by stagnating growth and weakening industry.

Hamas Says It Reached Out to China, Russia, and Other UNSC Members

The UN was built to stop horrors like the Holocaust. Yet here we are, watching it aid a genocide broadcast for the world to see. For over two years, your inaction has let this slaughter continue, even after experts confirmed it as genocide within days. Countries like the U.S., U.K., and others fuel it with weapons, money, and lies. Their support dehumanizes Palestinians, shields Israel’s crimes, and tears apart any trust in “global order.”
Francesca Albanese’s report called this a collective crime. But you keep enabling it. Resolution 2803 is a rubber-stamp for occupation. Pretending it’s “peace” insults every Palestinian survivor. How dare you legitimize this cruelty while blocking real solutions, like Colombia’s protection force?
Minion Guterres talks of “legitimacy” for stabilization, yet lets Israel veto UN involvement. The U.S. draft resolution just extends Netanyahu’s agenda. And when the vote came, even China and Russia looked away. How could any nation of good will and belief in international law vote for this abomination or even just abstain?!!
