Another concession by Orbán: Sweden's NATO membership

The Prime Minister of Hungary made another concession to the pro-war policy: he announced that the parliament will vote for Sweden's accession to NATO, the correspondent of the Hungarian Peace Community reported.

At the European Union summit in Brussels on February 1, Viktor Orbán withdrew his veto and voted to give Ukraine 50 billion euros, speed up the transfer of missiles, artillery shells, and ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces, and increase European military production. Orbán also signed the EU's final statement, according to which Ukraine will be supported as long as necessary.

In his annual evaluation speech in Budapest, Viktor Orbán tried to counterbalance his concessions to pro-war politics by announcing that he would not allow Hungary to be dragged into the war.

According to experts, the Hungarian Prime Minister's peaceful intentions are not supported by his concessions to the war supporters. The financial and military support of Kiev, as well as Sweden's NATO membership, favors the continuation of the war as opposed to the desired political settlement.

The integration of Sweden into NATO indicates that the Western alliance wants to continue its expansion to the East. The Hungarian government's consent to NATO expansion means that it rejects the fulfillment of Russia's security demands put forward on December 15, 2021, including that NATO abandon its eastern expansion.

Viktor Orbán's government has thereby embraced NATO's policy, according to which security is not indivisible, and the enforcement of the military bloc's security at the expense of Russia is permissible.

Since Moscow represents the opposite of this, namely the indivisibility of security, and that no one grants their own security at the expense of others, the Hungarian government's decision amounts to strengthening the confrontation and weakening our national sovereignty - evaluated the correspondent of the Magyar Békekör.

Touring South Korea to support opposition to US space warfare plans

 

 

I've just landed in South Korea (ROK) where I will be on a speaking tour around the country for the next 10 days.

I was invited to come and talk about Washington's push to entrap South Korea into the Pentagon's space technology strategy aimed at North Korea, China and Russia.

Already at the US Osan AFB in South Korea the Space Force has set up operations with the ROK client state.

The US has pushed the right-wing Seoul government to massively expand their spending on military space tech. With the current US national debt now at $35 trillion, Washington can't afford to pay for its expensive and ambitious plans to 'control and dominate' space. Thus the #1 job of the Pentagon and State Department is to get the allies to help pay for the space warfare infrastructure.

Currently the ROK government is building space R & D centers, satellite production facilities, new airfields likely to test hypersonic missiles and expanding 'missile defense' deployment sites.

One key goal the US has is to use ROK satellite production and launch facilities to hoist mini-satellites into Lower Earth Orbit (LEO) to help fill up the already crowded orbits before China and Russia can get there. Eyes and ears in LEO give a nation a decisive advantage in full scale war making.

Late last year the ROK hosted a big space industry conference in the capital city of Seoul in order to cement this expanding space warfare relationship. Dangling the promise of 'lots of high-tech jobs' the US has drawn the ROK into the trap.

The problem for the ROK (like all of Washington's allies participating in this space warfare operation) is that they will have little to no input into how and when this Star Wars program will be used. Even though ROK will help pay for it (and host many of the bases) the Pentagon will remain in charge of the 'tip of the spear'. Once becoming a colony of the US war machine, a nation loses their right to be full partners.

One sad thing about all of this is how Jeju Island (just off the southern tip of the Korean peninsula) is becoming further militarized via this new space tech operation.

Already the US has forced the construction of a Navy base in the small fishing/farming village of Gangjeong. US Navy warships (including Aegis destroyers outfitted with 'missile defense' systems) regularly port there. Jeju's proximity to China is no coincidence.

Jeju will also be hosting a new satellite production facility by the gigantic Hanwha corporation and recently became the site for an offshore launch of ROK's first military spy satellite. Thus Jeju increasingly will be a prime target in any US orchestrated war with NK, China and Russia.

Fortunately there is growing opposition across South Korea to all these plans, thus my invitation to come and share the bigger story and the work of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space.

Labour's Shadow Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, was confronted by residents about her stance on Israel’s war on Gaza while she was campaigning in Leeds in the UK. 

Reeves was among those who abstained from the vote on the SNP's motion, which called for an immediate ceasefire in November 2023. 

According to the health ministry, at least 28,663 Palestinians have been killed by Israel in Gaza since 7 October, including more than 12,300 children and 8,400 women.

The Democratic Party shows its contempt for the Black voters they depend upon in a myriad of ways. They talk a good game and pretend to do what Black people want while also engaging in duopoly treachery, falsely pointing to republicans as the obstacle to doing what the people want. “But Trump!”, will be their most popular expression in 2024. This year will present numerous occasions for patronizing treachery against the people whose support they need the most.  

One would think that as Joe Biden struggles to reach an approval rating that would ensure re-election success that he and the rest of the party establishment would choose better people to represent them in the group most likely to vote for democrats. They don’t because they are on the horns of a dilemma. They don’t really want to be too closely identified with Black people, the group they need most. They also can’t be in conflict with the oligarchs who make all of the political decisions in the country. The end result is a parade of foolishness meant to keep Black people in support of a party that actively works against their interests.

In 2024 democrats put the South Carolina primary first, pushing it past New Hampshire, where they didn’t even bother with a primary campaign. As in the rest of the south, registered democrats in South Carolina are usually Black. The decision to have an early contest in a southern state is politically sound but nothing comes out of it for Black people except photo ops with the likes of Congressman James Clyburn, a leader of the congressional establishment who has been falsely portrayed as an independent actor, a kingmaker.

It is true that Biden recently won in South Carolina overwhelmingly with 96% of the vote, but with only a 4% turnout  of registered voters. One can hardly blame those who chose to stay home. He had no credible competition and the fix, as they say, was in. But that doesn’t excuse the likes of Jaime Harrison from using one of the most trite and offensive stump speech lines about picking cotton and picking presidents.

Not to be outdone, Symone Sanders, once a press secretary for the Bernie Sanders campaign in 2016, and an adviser to Biden’s 2020 campaign, who then moved on to work for Vice President Kamala Harris, added to the tomfoolery by telling viewers that wanting to have a choice other than Biden is akin to going on a diet.

The quadrennial election process is a grifter’s dream come true. The democrats throw money around to anyone who is willing to repeat the party line, and if the grifters in question are Black, they lower the standard even further. The electoral propagandists don’t need to be smart or offer anything new. In fact, that is the last thing their patrons want. Any skills or intelligence go out the window and we are left with sad analogies about picking cotton. Doing otherwise would rock the political boat and expose the fakery that is rife in American politics.

Of course, this is a difficult moment as the ruling classes are openly splitting on key issues. The Democratic Party is saddled with an unpopular president and a discredited former president who is still managing to lead in the polls. Democrats gave away the store as the saying goes in coming up with an immigration bill that republicans demanded. The border wall, which liberals were supposed to revile, was back yet again, along with other measures intended to stem the flow of asylum seekers at the southern border. Republicans were on board until Donald Trump told them to scuttle the bill, and scuttle it they did.

Republicans held military spending for Ukraine and for Israel hostage, claiming they would give billions of dollars more if they got the border bill they wanted. But Trump spoke and the wheeling and dealing fell apart. Enter Symone Sanders Townsend . “In a world where the U.S. doesn’t fund Ukraine, Taiwan & Israel as well as provide $$ needed for border security…more people will die, Putin will win, the Chinese government will follow Putin’s lead and America is no longer a reliable partner.” This sort of word salad is all that is left of what passes for Black leadership. The misleaders are even worse than they used to be.

Hoping for a better class of party hacks is a loser’s game but they must be exposed nonetheless. It is vital for Black people to see what kind of games are being played against them. Democrats offer nothing but quieter Trumpism and that is why a Black media personality like Sanders Townsend will make silly statements about Russia and China. It is what she is being paid to do after all and the people doing the paying are scoundrels and hacks themselves.

Status Coup's Jon Farina has covered over 20 pro-Palestinian protests in NYC and Washington D.C. since the October 7th and Israel's responding slaughter of nearly 30,000 Palestinians.

As solidarity for Palestine grows across the US and EU we should be concerned about police instigated violence at rallies.

Likely AIPAC is demanding a national crackdown on Palestine support events. When they can influence some big city police departments (like NYC) to crack down on the protests, I am sure they are doing so.

We've also should keep an eye out for provocateurs who could be planted in protests, not only to spy, but could also serve the function to ignite violence which would get blamed on the non-violent people who attend these events.

My reading of the current ceasefire talks around Gaza don't give me much confidence that Israel-US really want a solution. Israel doesn't want to stop now when they have the majority of Gazans pinned down around Rafah facing starvation, disease and more bombs. It's like a 'fish in the barrel' situation.

The US and EU appear to be taking a position privately to let it all happen. The west wants 'Greater Israel' to be manifested but can't say so out loud.  They want Tel Aviv to take control of Lebanon, Syria and parts (at least) of Jordan and Egypt. 

Western energy corporations fear losing their access and control of Middle East energy resources. They have always counted on Israel to be the 'gendarmes' in the region. This is one reason we saw most of Europe recently pledge to pull their money out of UNRWA.

(The U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, known as UNRWA, fired 12 employees over the unconfirmed allegations that UN aid workers took part in October 7 attacks on Israel. In response to these claims, most western countries have joined the U.S. — the agency's biggest donor — in pausing funding.)

We have a world changing fight on our hands. We need everybody on board in some way, shape or form.

Russian 'nukes in space' scare by Biden admin is BS

Remember in 2003 how the New York Times reported that Iraq had WMD which then justified the Bush administration's 'shock and awe' attack? At the time so-called 'intelligence agencies' in the US claimed that it was all true. 

It wasn't.

Fast forward to 2024 and we hear reports from the same corporate media rag that intel reveals Russia has a new super-duper nuclear weapon that can destroy US satellites in space. 

Suddenly its all over the news just days after the Vladimir Putin interview with Tucker Carlson is seen by hundreds of millions (maybe billions by now) around the world. 

Desperation hits the White House.  'We've got to come up with something big to trash Russia in order to get Congress to vote for the billions for the Ukraine war'. 

And so they did.

It's all BS.

The 1967 Outer Space Treaty banned weapons of 'mass destruction' in space. At the time the US and USSR were worried about one side blowing things up with nukes in space. Thus the incentive for the treaty.

Both sides today have anti-satellite weapons (ASAT) capabilities using kinetic weapons that just crash into a satellite - no explosives involved. So Russia would not need nukes to do the job if they wanted to. Likely lasers are also available to both sides to carry out the task as well.

The US last tested an ASAT in 2008 in Operation Burnt Frost when they launched an 'interceptor missile' from a Navy Aegis destroyer that went into space and knocked out an old US satellite.

US, India, China and Russia have developed anti-satellite weapons of some kind - mostly the kinetic variety.

The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to White House claims about the 'new secret Russian nuclear weapon' by saying:

“It’s clear that the White House is trying, by hook or by crook, to push Congress to vote on a bill to approve funding [for Ukraine]. We’ll see what tricks the White House will use,” he said.

PAROS

And remember that Russia and China every year for at least the last 25-30 years go to the UN and introduce a new treaty called Prevention of an Arms Race in Outer Space (PAROS) to ban all weapons that fall outside of the 1967 treaty. In other words, all the new high-tech space weapons that are not covered in the Outer Space Treaty.

The US and Israel routinely block the treaty negotiations (during both Republican and Democrat administrations) saying, 'There is no problem in space thus no need for a new treaty'. Very self serving.

I believe the Russians have a long history of generally honoring treaties while the US does not.

It was the US that pulled about of the ABM Treaty (Anti-ballistic missile) that outlawed the building, testing and deployment of 'missile defense' systems which are key elements in Pentagon first-strike attack planning. 

The US refuses to renounced first-strike while China and Russia have done so for many years.

So who is really the aggressor in space?

When the US claims it will be the 'Master of Space' (to 'control and dominate space and deny other nations access to space') one must examine closely just who is leading the race to militarize and weaponize space.

Over the course of these past 4 months, the zionist entity used terrorism to forcibly displace 1.5 million Palestinians further and further south, ultimately into Rafah. It did not spare the sick, the elderly, nor the children. IOF snipers even shot at those on the “safe route.” Many Palestinians who made it to Rafah did so under the most inhumane and tortuous conditions. Many do not know how they made it alive.

Now, in this designated safe zone, many living in make-shift tents with nowhere to escape, “israel” bombs the densely populated area of Rafah. The zionists execute this terrorism with the help of U.S. bombs, financing, and propaganda.

For several months, the zionist entity has had the opportunity to engage in a ceasefire and hostage exchange; however, exchanging captured settlers for Palestinian prisoners and hostages was never the zionist objective. Genocide, ethnic cleansing, and colonizing Gaza were its objectives. We are seeing the entity’s staunch commitment to this genocidal campaign.

“israel” initiated this attack while much of the masses in the U.S. had their eyes glued to the TV. They yelled and shrieked at what was before them, which was not the genocide paid for by their tax dollars playing out in real time every single day for the past 129 days, but rather at a football game. Pompeo, along with his wife and Israeli influencer Shita Hakdosha, visited the 'rejuvenation centre', where soldiers reportedly go after returning from Gaza.

This is an excellent exhibition of US-Israeli collaboration with genocide in Palestine.

Alastair Crooke: The World’s Gyre

Biden may see himself needing some ‘grand victory’, as much as does Netanyahu, Alastair Crooke writes.

The U.S. is edging closer to war with Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces, a state security agency composed of armed groups, some of which are close to Iran, but which for the main are Iraqi nationalists. The U.S. carried out a drone strike in Baghdad, Wednesday that killed three members of the Kataeb Hizbullah forces, including a senior commander. One of the assassinated, al-Saadi, is the most senior figure to have been assassinated in Iraq since the 2020 drone strike that killed senior Iraqi Commander al-Muhandis and Qassem Soleimani.

The target is puzzling as Kataeb more than a week ago suspended its military operations against the U.S. (at the request of the Iraqi government). The stand down was widely published. So why was this senior figure assassinated?

Tectonic twitches often are sparked by a single egregious action: the one final grain of sand which – on top of the others – triggers the slide, capsizing the sandpile. Iraqis are angry. They feel that the U.S. wantonly violates their sovereignty – showing contempt and disdain for Iraq, a once great civilisation, now brought low in the wake of U.S. wars. Swift and collective retaliation has been promised.

One act, and a gyre can begin. The Iraqi government may not be able to hold the line.

The U.S. tries to separate and compartmentalise issues: AnsarAllah’s Red Sea blockade is ‘one thing’; attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq and Syria, an unrelated ‘another’. But all know that such separateness is artificial – the ‘red’ thread woven through all these ‘issues’ is Gaza. The White House (and Israel) however, insists the connecting thread instead to be Iran.

Did the White House think this through properly, or was its latest assassination viewed as a ‘sacrifice’ to appease the ‘gods of war’ in the Beltway, clamouring to bomb Iran?

Whatever the motive, the Gyre turns. Other dynamics are running that will be fuelled by the attack.

The Cradle highlights one significant shift:

    “by successfully obstructing Israeli vessels from traversing the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the Ansarallah-led Sanaa government has emerged as a powerful symbol of resistance in defence of the Palestinian people – a cause deeply popular across Yemen’s many demographics. Sanaa’s position stands in stark contrast to that of the Saudi and Emirati-backed government in Aden, which, to the horror of Yemenis, welcomed attacks by U.S. and British forces on 12 January”.

    “The U.S.–UK airstrikes have prompting some heavyweight internal defections … a number of Yemeni militias previously aligned with the UAE and Saudi Arabia, consequently switched allegiance to Ansarallah … Disillusionment with the coalition will have profound political and military implications for Yemen, reshaping alliances, and casting the UAE and Saudi Arabia as national adversaries. Palestine continues to serve as a revealing litmus test throughout West Asia – and now in Yemen too – exposing those who only-rhetorically claim the mantle of justice and Arab solidarity”.

 

Yemen military defections – How does this matter?

Well, the Houthis and AnsarAllah have become heroes across the Islamic World. Look at social media. The Houthis are now the ‘stuff of myth’: Standing up for Palestinians whilst others don’t. A following is taking hold. AnsarAllah’s ‘heroic’ stance may lead to the ousting of western proxies, and so to dominate that ‘rest of Yemen’ they presently do not control. It seizes too, the Islamic world imagination (to the concern of the Arab Establishment).

In the immediate aftermath of the assassination of al-Saadi, Iraqis took to the streets of Baghdad chanting: “God is Great, America is the Great Satan”.

Do not imagine this ‘turn’ is lost on others – on the Iraqi Hashd al-Sha’abi, for example; or on the (Palestinians) of Jordan; or on the mass foot-soldiers of the Egyptian army; or indeed in the Gulf. There are 5 billion smartphones extant today. The ruling class do watch the Arabic channels, and view (nervously) social media. They worry that anger against the western flouting of international law may boil over, and they will be unable to contain it: What price the ‘Rules Order’ now since the International Court of Justice upended the notion of a moral content to western culture?

The wrongheadedness of U.S. policy is astonishing – and now has claimed the most central tenet in the ‘Biden strategy’ for resolving the crisis in Gaza. The ‘dangle’ of Saudi normalisation with Israel was viewed in the West as the pivot – around which Netanyahu would either be forced to give up on his maximalist security control from the River to the Sea mantra, or see himself pushed aside by a rival for whom the ‘normalisation bait’ held the allure of likely victory in the next Israeli elections.

Biden’s spokesperson was flagrant in this respect:

“[We] … are having discussions with Israel and Saudi Arabia … about trying to move forward with a normalization arrangement between Israel and Saudi Arabia. So those discussions are ongoing as well. We certainly received positive feedback from both sides that they’re willing to continue to have those discussions”.  

 

The Saudi Government – possibly angry at the U.S. recourse to such deceptive language – duly kicked the plank out from beneath the Biden platform: It issued a written statement confirming unequivocally that: “there will be no diplomatic relations with Israel unless an independent Palestinian state is recognized on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and that the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip stops – and all Israeli occupation forces are withdraw from the Gaza Strip”. The Kingdom stands by the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, in other words.

Of course, no Israeli could campaign on that platform in Israeli elections!

Recall how Tom Friedman set out how the ‘Biden Doctrine’ was supposed to fit together as a interlinked whole: First, through taking a “strong and resolute stand on Iran” the U.S. would signal to “our Arab and Muslim allies, that it needs to take on Iran in a more aggressive manner … that we can no longer allow Iran to try to drive us out of the region; Israel into extinction and our Arab allies into intimidation by acting through proxies — Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and Shiite militias in Iraq — while Tehran blithely sits back and pays no price”.

The second strand was the Saudi dangle that would inevitably pave the path into the (third) element which was the “building of a credible legitimate Palestinian Authority as … a good neighbour to Israel …”. This “bold U.S. commitment to a Palestinian state would give us [Team Biden] legitimacy to act against Iran”, Friedman foresaw.

Let us be plain: this trifecta of policies, rather than gel into a single doctrine, are falling like dominoes. Their collapse owes to one thing: The original decision to back Israel’s use of overwhelming violence across Gaza’s civil society – ostensibly to defeat Hamas. It has turned the region and much of the World against the U.S. and Europe.

How did this happen? Because nothing changed by way of U.S. policies. It was the same old western bromides from decades ago: financial threats, bombing and violence. And the insistence on one mandatory ‘stand with Israel’ narrative (with no discussion).

The rest of the world has grown tired of it; even defiant towards it. 

So to put it bluntly: Israel has now come face-to-face with the (self-destructive) inconsistency within Zionism: How to maintain special rights for Jews on territory in which there is an approximately equal number of non-Jews? The old answer has been discredited.

The Israeli Right argues that Israel then must go for broke: All or nothing. Take the risk of wider war (in which Israel, may or may not, be ‘victorious’); tell Arabs to move elsewhere; or abandon Zionism and themselves move on.

The Biden Administration, rather than help Israel look truth in the eye, has discarded the task of obliging Israel to face up to the contradictions in Zionism, in favour of restoring the broken status quo ante. Some 75 years after the founding of the Israeli state, as former Israeli negotiator, Daniel Levy, has. noted:

‘[We are back to] “the “banal debate” between the U.S. and Israel over “whether the bantustan shall be repackaged and marketed as a ‘state’”.

Could it have been different? Probably not. The reaction comes from deep in Biden’s nature.

The trifecta of U.S. failed responses paradoxically has nonetheless facilitated Israel’s slide to the Right (as evidenced by all recent polling). And has – absent a hostage deal; absent a Saudi credible ‘dangle’; or any credible path to a Palestinian State – precisely opened the path for the Netanyahu government to pursue his maximalist exit from collapsed deterrence through securing a ‘grand victory’ over the Palestinian resistance, Hizbullah, and even – he hopes – Iran.

None of these objectives can be achieved without U.S. help. Yet, where is Biden’s limit: Support for Israel in a Hizbullah war? And were it to widen, support for Israel in an Iran war too? Where is the limit?

The incongruity, coming as it does, at a moment when the West’s Ukraine Project is imploding, suggests that Biden may see himself needing some ‘grand victory’, as much as does Netanyahu.

A Palestinian man from Gaza, who had moved to Deir al-Balah for safety, went out early in the morning on Monday to buy bread for his family. 

Upon his return, he found all his family members, including his grandchildren, killed by an Israeli air strike. 

More than 28,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed by Israel since 7 October, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

How can anyone sit back and just watch this carnage and not be f-ing out of their minds at the so-called governments in Washington and across the west. 

They are all heartless and complicit in these genocidal crimes against humanity.

Tucker answers Q's at Dubai summit

 

 

Tucker Carlson was invited to address the 2024 World Government Summit in Dubai following his trip to Moscow. 

He made some very interesting and important observations. 

My own sense of Tucker is that he is in transition. He's long been characterized as hard core right-wing but one of the reasons he got fired from Fox is that he was using his show to challenge the 'uni-party' in Washington. 

I saw him interviewing people from the left-center-right on his show. That is something few (if any) highly rated TV personalities dare to do these days in the US.

I saw him while he was still on Fox calling out Republicans for funding the war in Ukraine. I saw him challenging the leadership of the Republican party for being out of touch.

Time will tell how far Tucker goes on his current path. With his ability now to be doing independent media he has more freedom to explore. At this point his interview with Vladimir Putin shows that he appears to be serious about wanting to give the American people more information about what is actually going on around the world.

That is a good thing.

Show support for Julian Assange!

 

 

In just eight days, Julian Assange’s hearing will take place in the UK High Court.

This will determine whether Julian can appeal an earlier decision, allowing the UK Government to extradite him.

If the High Court refuses to allow Julian to appeal, then Julian will have no further legal avenues in the UK.

He could be extradited to the US within 24 hours.

In late January, Julian’s brother, Gabriel Shipton, warned of the urgency of Julian’s case. 

“He’s spent the last 13 years in one form of detention or another, the last five in a maximum security prison [in London],” he said.

“[In the US], he could be put into a supermax prison […] And that is complete isolation. There is no contact with the outside world. Kept in solitary confinement, essentially all the time. Those conditions drive people insane.”
