Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday addressed eastern Ukrainian “self-defense” forces, urging them to open a humanitarian corridor that allows surrounded Ukrainian soldiers to withdraw safely. The plea came the day after President Petro Poroshenko accused Moscow of invading his country, and only hours after US President Barack Obama placed the responsibility for the crisis squarely on Russia.
