THAAD is a US military 'missile defense' system deployed in the South Korean melon farming village of Soseong-ri against the will of the people. They have long been regularly protesting it and now their government is cracking down on them again.

💌 A message of solidarity from Jeju Gangjeong to Soseong-ri

* Seongju County Office should immediately withdraw plans for administrative execution against Jinchon Peace Party! 

* Seongju County Office, notice forcibly demolished Jinchon-gyo Peace Cathedral in Soseong-ri (administration enforcement).

* Lee Jae-myeong administration should express a clear position on the violence repeated in the country during the THAAD deployment process, and take responsible measures to stop this administration's execution!

* The government must ensure the human rights and freedom of religion and conscience of the residents of Soseong-ri, and immediately arrange a public debate platform for peaceful resolution!

* Go away THAAD and come peace!

US Army delivered components of the THAAD missile interceptor system into the village a few years ago. Because of the protests opposing the new US missile base in Soseong-ri the farmers and supporters from around the country tried to block the deployments. Thousands of South Korean police were repeatedly sent to keep the streets open for the Army vehicles carrying the missile systems. Like on Jeju Island, the people in the village continue to protest the missile base.

Good news for now (by Simone Chun) —but this is not over. Our immediate and global solidarity is making a real impact! The effort to forcefully evict the anti-THAAD protest site has been temporarily halted.

As you know, peace movements and communities across South Korea, from Gangjeong in Jeju to Soseong-ri in Seongju, symbolize citizen and community-led nonviolent resistance to U.S. militarism. 

Their presence is a beacon in the face of expanding U.S.-led militarism, whose only end is war.

The next scheduled enforcement is November 28. Let us stand united!
