On July 9, 2025, during a briefing in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova delivered a sharp response to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte’s recent remarks concerning the Russia-China partnership and Taiwan.
Accusing NATO of fabricating threats and promoting a confrontational agenda, Zakharova denounced what she called the alliance’s “mental incontinence” and obsession with maintaining Western dominance.
She emphasized that cooperation between Moscow and Beijing is rooted in mutual respect, sovereignty, and international law—unlike NATO’s bloc-based militarization strategy, which she said ignores the real needs of its own citizens.
The briefing underscored growing tensions between Russia and the Western alliance, especially regarding NATO’s expansionist rhetoric and inflated defense budgets.
