History lesson: The China Mirage

This is one of the very best books I have ever read. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I've just finished reading it for the 2nd time and wanted to suggest others read it too.

As I was reading it I kept saying to myself - this is exactly what is happening today with US-UK policy in Ukraine and toward China. The ruling elites in the U.S. have gotten away with corruption and murder for so many years - it is their Modus Operandi - their way of repeating criminal behavior over and over again.

Why do they keep doing it? Control and domination....and it has worked.

No one nation could stop them....until now as the Global South rises.

Bradley writes:

One of FDR's final acts [before unexpectedly dying on March 29, 1945] had been to follow the [US church-based] China lobby and support Chiang Kai-shek as China's future leader, ignoring the few knowledgeable State Department China Hands' plea that he recognize Mao's growing influence. If Roosevelt hadn't propped up the faltering Soong-Chiang syndicate, a Chinese civil war might have been avoided and Mao Zedong might have claimed the Mandate earlier than 1949.

Instead, the American belief that China would change according  to the US plan would flourish for a few more years, resulting in the deaths of millions of people. But the tide of Chinese history would soon overwhelm barbarian dreams. When US Ambassador Hurley later briefed Winston Churchill on Roosevelt's plan for a united, democratic China under Chiang, the prime minister referred to FDR's thinking as "the Great American illusion."
