Seven of us friends have rented a lake house from another friend for a week in New Hampshire.
We went out to the nearest busy intersection (about 13 miles away) for an hour yesterday and held signs and banners calling for an end to the ugly war the US-UK-NATO are running against Russia.
Fresh off her big trip to Ukraine, Victoria Nuland says one "axis" of current US strategy is to “put some of Russia's most precious assets at risk." This as strikes on Russian territory have increased sharply, and the US will reportedly be sending long-range ballistic missiles to the faltering Zelensky army. Plus US-NATO will soon hold provocative 'military war games' in the Black Sea.
The response from the traffic, I felt, was generally better than we get in most places in Maine. The truckers (and other working class folks in pickups or cars) were the most supportive of our message. There are likely several reasons for this different public reaction. One being that New Hampshire is more of a Libertarian state - their motto is 'Live free, or die'.
It was quite fun to be in a new place - and one that likely does not see many protests in the lake-side tourist town.
Once home, and after some lunch, MB and I took the canoe out for a paddle around a part of huge Lake Squam. Then we had a swim and an invigorating outdoor shower before the rain came down.
A good day doing the things we most love to do.
Bruce
Agreement that it was interesting bringing our messages to a different audience and being so warmly received by the working class guys driving by. Most of the elderly people in expensive cars studiously ignored us.
