Electric cars: a few questions

California has decided to make purchase of electric cars mandatory in 2035.

This short video shows one long line at a electric car charging station in California.

But I have a few questions:

  • How long does it take to charge an electric car?
  • Will these charging stations be free? If not, how much does it cost to charge a vehicle?
  • What kind of power plants are these chargers hooked up to? What kind of fuel do these power plants use?
  • What are the environmental impacts of electric car battery production?
  • How does climate crisis impact electric auto charging in the future? Amid the extreme heat that began on Wednesday and is expected to last until early next week, Californian electricity consumers have been urged not to charge their electric vehicles during peak demand hours to help ease the strain on the state’s electricity grid.
  • Are the roads these cars drive on using oil-based asphalt?
  • What ever happened to dramatically expanding public mass transit that is more environmentally sound rather than continuing to support the car culture?
  • How about building more bicycle lanes?

What questions did I miss?
