NOT MY CONCERN

New 'Prompt Global Strike' systems now under development would give the US Strategic Command (StratCom) the capability to hit Russia or China from space

The cutting of steel
the turn of the wrench
the twisting of the screw
our hard hats are at work

How these pieces fit together
is not my concern
it's jobs in America
what other option do we have?
It's the only game in town
we'd better take it
before someone else grabs the work
that's the way it is in dog-eat-dog land

I am just here
for the paycheck
and occasional rah-rah
when the politicians stop by
and tell us we are the greatest
aircraft makers, ship builders,
tank assemblers, satellite designers,
drone pilots
in the world

I have other things on my mind
I have things to buy at WalMart
made in China
or Vietnam
who we helped 'liberate'
for corporate capital

I have no concern about who
the latest enemy is
that these weapons will engage
So what if we encircle China
or Russia
in a new cold war

As long as the cheap stuff
still stocks the shelves at WalMart
then I have no concern
I am free
to shop.

  1. Oh boy!!!! So true, and very appropriate from what I was listening to two days ago...which was a memorial piece about Lt.col retired Air Force,Robert Bowman who also was in Veteran's for Peace in Florida. Listening to excerpts of his talks was very inspiring and sobering, especially in addition to his words regarding 9/11 which I have spent this last year researching again,I realize listening that he had been a whistle-blower during the Reagan administration to tell the public that the space and missile programs were not for defense, but for first strike capabilities. The biggest, sad realization was that there were not more people in high positions like he to speak out then and in future years when we were preparing to go into Iraq, etc. That people in the military and CIA, etc.would not speak out to tell the public that "they knew" Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction as we lead up to that war, is difficult to accept and understand! How a job or career could be more important than so many lives to be lost is beyond me! Listening to the news, it feels like the propaganda has renewed for building a case again for future actions in Syria. Thank you for writing this!
