Israel has become the Nazi.
Obama, the U.S. Congress and the media
have become collaborators
in this death orgy.
The American people
silenced by hard hearts
fear
ignorance
servility
and more
are accomplices
to the crime.
The weapons makers
merchants of death
count their money
covered in blood
the hearts of those who touch
the stained paper
become blinded.
The Palestinian people
are invisible
except when their death is celebrated
by the TV images
beamed from cold satellites
exploding targets
successfully "taken out"
The victory is cheered
by dark souls.
The Palestinian people
are expected to submit
passively
to their brutal treatment
a generational death trap
they are required
to accept their fate
without reaction
or protest
or emotion
or hate
or violence.
As the Palestinian lands
are stolen
their olive trees cut down
their water taken
for Israeli lawns
and swimming pools
and cool drinks
in fancy restaurants
The people are expected
to submit in silence.
We who still have hearts
who can still feel
can still see with our own eyes
can hear the cries with our own ears
we can't go in silence
to turn away once again
to act as if all is well
we are liars if we turn away
again
and again
as the children die
and their mothers weep
and their fathers sit
in rage inside Israeli jails
for trying to defend their loved ones.
We are damned by these deeds
and our long silence.

Bruce....great piece....It IS cold-blooded murder unlike what happened to the Jews at the hands of the Nazis, this is high-tech, long-distance killing of innocent and defenseless people only seeking self-determination and human rights.
ReplyDeleteObama and Congress be damned for standing behind Israel.
But I predict that the Arab states will all be drawn into this and there will be an enormous blood bath in the middle east...and all Washington will be able to do is keep on watching.
Washington doesn't just keep watching, it keeps sending $3 billion a year at least, sometimes more, in credit for weapons used against Palestinians.
ReplyDeletePat Taub and I had a fascinating discussion with two women holding "Free Prayer" signs on Congress St. in Portland last Saturday. We wanted them to pray for Gaza. Among many outlandish claims the elder of the two told us, "Palestinians weren't interested in agriculture. The settler were building farms and improving the land, but Palestinians turned up their noses at that kind of work." Me: "What about the 500 year old olive tree orchards that the government of Israel bulldozes? Those belong to generations engaged in agriculture don't they?" Prayer woman: "Why does Israel do that?" Me: "It is Israel's attempt to drive people off the land, in my opinion." In the end she led us all in a prayer for God to lead us to the truth if we were mistaken. As Pat & I walked away the college-age woman had such a bewildered expression on her face. ;->
