STAR BORES

I went to see the new Star Wars movie tonight. My review:

* Acting bad

* Story line - boring and predictable

* Action scenes - boring and predictable (Have not changed much since I was a kid watching pirate movies and sword fights. In Star Wars they just have more technology.)

* Morality play - overused and predictable. Evil forces, dark side stuff - same story line as the rest of the movies.

* Redeeming moments? One when Darth Vader says "You are either with me or against me" Reminds folks of George W. Bush.

Even though Lucas says it is his last Star Wars film, the ending was a set up for another one for sure. The dark side wins but two babies are born and the Jedi's will raise them to fight the dark side. They are the children of Darth Vader so here we go again.

Worst part of the night - popcorn was $6. Outrageous.

    You're being sarcastic, right?

  2. So, did you decide to take issue with that last paragraph from the queue where you were camping out in advance of the 'Star Wars' screening?

Your familiarity with the plot of Lucas's badly written, badly acted money-machine says more about you than it does about Bruce.

So what if his post didn't connect the twins born in 'Revenge of the Sith' with the Luke and Leia mentioned in the other films?

So he's less likely to waste his time on one of our society's favorite means of indoctrination than you or I--so what?

    Got an answer?

  3. Brian simply asked whether Bruce meant what he said literally or was making a joke, Stephen. Why so defensive? Could it be that you yourself realized that Bruce sounded clueless and needed you to defend him? If so, that says more about your opinion of Bruce than it does about Brian.

  4. Anonymous, I'd encourage you to look at others of Brian's posts on this site before terming any of his questions 'simple.' Brian's agenda has been obvious, as far as I can make out.

You suggest I was being 'defensive,' but I intended my response to Brian's post to be 'provocative' rather than defensive.

I was hoping, then, to provoke some thought about why someone in our North American society might be considered (in your terms) 'clueless' just because s/he hadn't fully mastered the plot line of the latest piece of Hollywood fluff.

My post, therefore, had nothing to do with my opinion of Bruce (which is, having heard him speak and having heard of his activities, quite high).

Rather, my post was intended to challenge Brian's (and your) implicit assumption that we should pay attention to, and fill our heads with, the things we're directed to by those with their hands on the money.

    Any thoughts?

  5. Stephen, I would consider Bruce's *apparent* lack of knowledge about the basic plot of the Star Wars movies to be "clueless" because, after nearly thirty years, the movies have become a part of the cultural background. Not fully mastered -- even had one never seen the films, its hard to imagine Bruce not having become familiar enough with the storyline through common cultural references to be aware that there were three other movies covering just the events he predicts. Which is why I honestly can't tell whether he was joking or not.

But, perhaps you're right, and Bruce is to be commended for avoiding "our society's favorite means of indoctrination". I'll do likewise, and avoid "Kill Them All" and "Fuck The Army", so as to not have my head filled with the things Bruce and his comrades are directing me to.

Bruce posted on May 27. The movie premeired on (I google) May 19. You're being dumb to make a point or just generally clueless.

I took issue because Bruce seemed to be unaware of the basic plot cycle of Star Wars. Which is, you know, okay but it speaks to a lack of familiarity with Western culture in general. Which seems to be par for the course.

Your familiarity with the plot of Lucas's badly written, badly acted money-machine says more about you than it does about Bruce.

    Oh, you wound me, Sir.

Sure. Bruce plonked down his money for the thing just like I did. Poor bloke is guilty of supporting the Hollywood death machine. I feel sorry for him. And you for being a fool.

I have an agenda? Tell me what it is and then I'll know as well.
