We have never been able to rely on the "establishment" media, even before it became as concentrated and literally corporate as it is today.

I have come up with no answer other than: we must build our own. Back in the day Leftists and other radicals had their own newspapers. Without suggesting that we drop the work we have done on the internet, I do not see an alternative to starting to build our own media by establishing an open, non-partisan Movement printed press. There are people (including me) who know how to do the mechanical production chores, what is lacking is just the right combination of people and political organizations to make it happen. That's really the part I would love to help build up.

Just imagine how cool it will be when we have a newspaper that would print reports like this rather than the tripe that passes for commentary in today's newspapers!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17217968026255886908noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10853024.post-13026380417659456532008-09-07T15:43:00.000-05:002008-09-07T15:43:00.000-05:00"One organizer I spoke to said he had given up on ..."One organizer I spoke to said he had given up on the idea of protests as an effective way to speak out and to offer our own messages to the public. But then, with the media under corporate control, what vehicles are we left with to communicate with the public?" -- I would recommend talking: conversations, door-to-door organizing, organized forums, talks at schools and churches. And include just plain social events where activists and public can mingle - concerts, parties, park clean-ups. Protests are more a social and feel-good event for the participants; fun, but not really all that useful otherwise. Talking with those who are not part of the choir is essential.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
